WHALEY, DONALD – 1966
REPORTED HERE ARE RESULTS OF A STUDY INITIATED TO EXAMINE PRINCIPLES INVOLVED IN THE EXPERIMENTAL MODIFICATION OF VERBAL BEHAVIOR. SIXTEEN UNDERGRADUATE FEMALE VOLUNTEERS WERE REQUIRED TO PRODUCE A VERBAL RESPONSE UNDER MANIPULATED LIGHTING CONDITIONS. BASE LINE SCORES WERE OBTAINED FOR EACH SUBJECT UNDER DIMLIGHT CONDITIONS. PUSHBUTTON SCORES…

Peer reviewedRock, Irvin; Gilchrist, Alan – American Journal of Psychology, 1975
This paper was concerned with the perceptions that can result from a change in the length of the retinal image of a line. Conditions that lead either to the perception of a line of changing length and the perception of a line of constant length undergoing covering or uncovering by another object were examined. (Author/RK)

Peer reviewedLester, Barry M. – Developmental Psychology, 1975
Two experiments are reported in which cardiac habituation of the orienting response to pure tone stimuli was studied in well-nourished and malnourished male Guatemalan infants. Results indicated a fundamental attentional deficit in the malnourished group. (GO)
Descriptors: Attention Span, Auditory Stimuli, Heart Rate, Infants
Peer reviewedFagan, Joseph F., III – Child Development, 1978
Reports four experiments in which infants' recognition memory (defined by novelty preferences) was found to be improved by providing five- to seven-month-old infants with discriminable but related targets during the familiarization period. Facilitation of recognition was found for both photographs of faces and abstract patterns. (JMB)
Descriptors: Infants, Memory, Pattern Recognition, Recognition
Peer reviewedZentall, Sydney S.; And Others – Journal of Educational Research, 1978
Increased activity during the teaching of spelling words resulted in hyperactive children having greater difficulty than the normal children in distinguishing relevant tasks from the extraneous stimulation. (Ed.)
Descriptors: Conditioning, Hyperactivity, Performance Factors, Psychological Testing
Peer reviewedRobinson, Earl J.; Lissitz, Robert W. – Psychometrika, 1977
This paper presents a simple random procedure for selecting subsets of stimulus pairs for presentation to subjects. The resulting set of ratings from the group of subjects allows the construction of a group space through the use of an existing computer program. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Computer Programs, Data Collection, Multidimensional Scaling, Responses
Peer reviewedChang, Hsing-Wu; Trehub, Sandra E. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1977
The ability of 5-month-old infants to process relational information was assessed by means of a habituation-dishabituation paradigm with cardiac deceleration as the response measure. (SB)

Peer reviewedAlbin, J. B.; Lobb, H. – Journal of Mental Deficiency Research, 1976
Compared was the trace and delay eyelid conditioning in 72 severely or profoundly retarded and 72 normal young adults. (CL)

Peer reviewedKolesar, Michael J.; Black, Kathryn Norcross – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1976
This study provided data showing that with increase in age there is an increase in spontaneous alternation behavior in preschool children. Mental age rather than chronological age is indicated as a more meaningful predictor of a child's tendency to seek out and approach varying stimulation. (GO)

Examined the effects of an audiovisual distractor on the visual attention paid to TV by preschool children characterized as distractible. The effectiveness of an audiovisual distractor eliciting a head turn from the TV was diminished when TV viewing had been maintained for at least 15 seconds. (PCB)
Descriptors: Attention, Preschool Children, Reaction Time, Stimuli
Peer reviewedRichards, John E. – Child Development, 1987
Tested the model which posits that heart-rate deceleration and respiratory sinus arrhythmia are indices of infant attention. Infants studied cross-sectionally at 14, 20, and 26 weeks of age were presented with complex patterns on a TV screen which were accompanied by an "interrupting stumulus". (Author/BN)

Peer reviewedBeehler, Pamela J. Hoyes; Kamen, Gary – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1986
An investigation was conducted to equate auditory and electrocutaneous stimuli. These equated stimuli were used in a second investigation examining neuromotor responses to stimuli of varying intensity. Results are provided. (Author/MT)

Peer reviewedPolatajko, H. J. – Occupational Therapy Journal of Research, 1987
The postural-sway response of five learning disabled (LD) and five nondisabled children was evaluated using a force platform. From statistical analysis of the two groups, the LD children appeared to use visual input to compensate for postural problems and had significant difficulty controlling posture with eyes closed. (SK)
