Studying Abroad and International Travel: Emergency Management Planning for All Settings and All Times. Fact Sheet
Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance Center (REMS)
Many K-12 schools and institutions of higher education (IHEs) will have students or staff that decide to travel abroad to expand their education. Emergencies can happen in international locations where students and staff are working and studying. Therefore K-12 schools and IHEs need to know how to prepare travelers beforehand, respond to the extent possible while an emergency is ongoing, and help the school or higher ed community recover in the aftermath, particularly as students and staff return home. This information is outline in an emergency operations plan (EOP) that the core planning team creates and revises. This fact sheet is intended for K-12 and higher ed core planning teams and will provide information on planning for emergencies that occur abroad while students and staff visit the location.
