Friedman, Alinda; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1982
Two experiments tested the limiting case of a multiple resources approach to resource allocation in information processing. Results contradict a single-capacity model, supporting the idea that the hemispheres' resource supplies are independent and have implications for both cerebral specialization and divided attention issues. (Author/PN)

Smith, Peggy B.; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1982
Perception of pregnancy risk, fertility knowledge, and probability-based teaching examples of risk were assessed in 104 primiparous urban adolescents 13-18 years of age in their second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Perception of risk was not associated with age, actual frequency of intercourse, or level of fertility knowledge. (Author/PN)

Blabock, Jane W. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1982
Eighty college students with learning disabilities were evaluated via intelligence tests and auditory language tests. In the 63 students with auditory language problems, persistent problems were discovered in discrimination, comprehension, memory, retrieval, sequencing, syntax, formulation, and articulation. The major area of language problems was…

Tsuchimochi, Gary H. – Comparative Education Review, 1982
Provides an indication of prospects for the development of the comparative study of education in Japan (such study requires developing a methodology unique to Japan). Further development of the comparative study of education in Japan is greatly dependent on Japan's promoting research on developing societies. (Author/BRR)

Catalan, Robert – Francais dans le Monde, 1982
Discusses the relationship between the person learning a foreign language, the methodology employed, and the environment using the paradigms of T. Parsons. Notes that the functional method has adapted some of these functions and suggests ways to incorporate the others. (AMH)

Regan, Joan E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1981
In four experiments, college students were presented with lists of either Armenian or English letters on a tachistoscope. The data indicate that extensive practice may be a necessary condition for capacity-free processing but may not be a necessary condition for involuntary processing. (Author/RD)

McDonald, Gerald W. – Youth and Society, 1982
Describes research on the influence of sex, grade level, religiosity, and birth order on adolescents' perceptions of their parents' power/authority on such dimensions as control of economic resources, decision-making, and rewards/punishments; guidance; right to exercise power; and knowledge/competence in adolescent heterosexual relationships and…

Wong, Eva; Weisstein, Naomi – Science, 1982
Reports effects of context that are entirely perceptual. Visual discrimination was enhanced when line segments were flashed in a region that was perceived as a figure. Discrimination was substantially degraded when the same region was seen as ground although the physical stimulus remained identical throughout figure-ground reversals. (Author/JN)

Phelps, Michael E.; Kuhl, David E. – Science, 1981
Studies demonstrate increasing glucose metabolic rates in human primary (PVC) and association (AVC) visual cortex as complexity of visual scenes increase. AVC increased more rapidly with scene complexity than PVC and increased local metabolic activities above control subject with eyes closed; indicates wide range and metabolic reserve of visual…

Santee, Jeffrey L.; Egeth, Howard E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1982
Reaction time and accuracy do not always reflect the same perceptual processes; therefore, the convergence of reaction time with accuracy within the context of a specific information processing model should be demonstrated empirically rather than assumed a priori. (Author/PN)

Alpert, Jonathan L. – Journal of Legal Education, 1981
Accreditation standards mandate that law students be trained for litigation, ignoring the fact that most lawyers do not engage in litigation and that a goal is the reduction of litigation. Clinical training is far less important to modern lawyers than training in perspective-taking and humanistic interaction. (MSE)
