Braxton, John M.; Brier, Ellen M. – Review of Higher Education, 1989
An exploratory study examined the effects of organizational attributes and interactional attributes on student attrition. Path analysis indicates that while organizational attributes directly affect academic or social integration, they have no direct effect on student withdrawal. (Author/MSE)
Descriptors: Higher Education, Interaction, Organizational Theories, Path Analysis

Kaplan, David – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1989
The sampling variability and zeta-values of parameter estimates for misspecified structural equation models were examined. A Monte Carlo study was used. Results are discussed in terms of asymptotic theory and the implications for the practice of structural equation models. (SLD)
Descriptors: Error of Measurement, Estimation (Mathematics), Mathematical Models, Monte Carlo Methods

Brooks, Linda; Perot, Annette R. – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1991
Using data collected from 214 tenure-track faculty women and 276 women graduate students, explores a model for predicting the reporting of sexual harassment. Feminist ideology and frequency of harassment were significant predictors of perceived offensiveness, which directly affected the likelihood of an incident being reported. (CJS)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Females, Graduate Students, Higher Education

Tang, Mei; Fouad, Nadya A.; Smith, Philip L. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1999
A study of influences on career choice for 187 Asian Americans supported a path model showing that acculturation, family background, and self-efficacy had the most significant effects on choosing an occupation. (71 references) (SK)
Descriptors: Acculturation, Asian Americans, Career Choice, Family Influence

Reeve, Johnmarshall; Deci, Edward L. – Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 1996
Explores the effects of three elements of the competitive situation (competitive set, competitive outcome, and interpersonal context) on intrinsic motivation in a sample of college students (n=100). Competitive outcome and interpersonal context affected intrinsic motivation: winning increased intrinsic motivation, while pressured interpersonal…

Ponton, Michael K; Derrick, M. Gail; Carr, Paul B. – Adult Education Quarterly: A Journal of Research and Theory, 2005
The purpose of this study was to investigate the tenability of a proposed path-analytic model relating resourcefulness and persistence in the context of adult autonomous learning. Data collected from a nonprobability sample of 492 American adults using valid and reliable measures for resourcefulness and persistence were analyzed. Results suggest…

Xie, Jun; Bentler, Peter M. – Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2003
Covariance structure models are applied to gene expression data using a factor model, a path model, and their combination. The factor model is based on a few factors that capture most of the expression information. A common factor of a group of genes may represent a common protein factor for the transcript of the co-expressed genes, and hence, it…
Descriptors: Path Analysis, Genetics, Structural Equation Models, Factor Analysis
Balsam, Kimberly F.; Szymanski, Dawn M. – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 2005
Despite a large body of literature addressing relationship quality and domestic violence in women's same-sex relationships, few studies have empirically examined how stress specific to living as a lesbian or bisexual woman might correlate with these relationship variables. Degree of outness, internalized homophobia, lifetime and recent experiences…
Descriptors: Stress Variables, Females, Path Analysis, Family Violence
Metzger, Maureen E.; Alexander, Jeffrey A.; Weiner, Bryan J. – Health Education & Behavior, 2005
This study examines the effects of coalition leadership and governance on member participation in voluntary community health coalitions. Path modeling was used to explore how leadership and governance processes in coalitions affect existing member costs, benefits, and levels of participation. It was hypothesized that the effects of coalition…

Alfaro, Edna C.; Umana-Taylor, Adriana J.; Bamaca, Mayra Y. – Family Relations, 2006
The current study examined the extent to which mothers, fathers, teachers, and teenage friends influenced Latino adolescents' academic motivation. Using path analysis, separate models were tested for 154 Latino boys and 156 Latina girls. Findings indicated that mothers' and teachers' academic support were positively related to adolescent girls'…
Descriptors: Student Motivation, Path Analysis, Gender Differences, Adolescents
DiStefano, Christine; Motl, Robert W. – Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2006
This article used multitrait-multimethod methodology and covariance modeling for an investigation of the presence and correlates of method effects associated with negatively worded items on the Rosenberg Self-Esteem (RSE) scale (Rosenberg, 1989) using a sample of 757 adults. Results showed that method effects associated with negative item phrasing…

Newton, Maria; Watson, Doris L.; Kim, Mi-Sook; Beacham, Abbie O. – Youth & Society, 2006
In a sample of underserved youth, this study examined the relationship between achievement goal theory and affect and attitudes. The study also explored if constructs of Hellison's taking personal and social responsibility (TPSR) model mediated the relationship between goal constructs and the dependent variables. Participants were 135 multiethnic…
Descriptors: Social Responsibility, Physical Activities, Path Analysis, Student Attitudes
Cheng, David X.; Zhao, Chun Mei – NASPA Journal, 2006
This study examined the relevance of higher education institutions' existing student activity programming and its effectiveness in promoting students' multicultural learning. Employing path analysis, this study explored the level of undergraduates' participation in selected college organizations and activities and its linkage to multicultural…
Descriptors: Cultural Pluralism, Path Analysis, Extracurricular Activities, Student Attitudes
Caples, Heather S.; Barrera, Manuel, Jr. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 2006
Relatively few studies have examined psychological maltreatment as a risk factor for adolescent psychopathology. This cross-sectional study evaluated mother-adolescent conflict frequency, maternal support, and avoidant coping as mediators of relations between mother's degrading parenting and adolescent conduct problems and internalizing. Analyses…

Schoeder, Chrystal Edge; Remer, Rory – Journal of Child and Family Studies, 2007
The research on Tourette's disorder (TD), a neuropsychological disorder consisting of motor and phonic tics, has largely focused on individuals with TD and not on the caregivers of children with TD. We investigated the effects of several variables on caregiver strain of caregivers of children with TD, including perceived social support, caregiver…
