Gitter, A. George; And Others – Journal of Social Psychology, 1972
This study investigated the effects of sex of perceiver, race of expressor, and mode of presentation of stimuli (Audio/visual, visual/only, audio/only, and still pictures) on perception of emotion. Emotions are most accurately perceived in audio/visual; females were superior in perception of emotions. (JB)

Bauman, Edward; St. John, Joan – Psychology in the Schools, 1971
It is concluded from the study that the three tests tested are not interchangeable despite the fact that they appear to measure similar perceptual functions. All three tests should be combined in a battery if used for diagnostic purposes. (Author)

Feij, Jan A. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
Investigates the relationship between performance on field-independence tests and two variables which may be thought of as important determinants of performance on a variety of cognitive tasks: impulsiveness and previous education. (Author/RC)

Hicks, Robert E.; And Others – American Journal of Psychology, 1976
120 college students sorted cards with instructions to process bits of information per card (response uncertainty) and then made an absolute judgment of the interval's duration. Judged time was an inverse linear function of response uncertainty under the prospective paradigm, whereas no significant function was obtained under the retrospective…

Bard, Ellen Gurman; And Others – Language, 1996
Describes how "magnitude estimation," a technique used in psychophysics, can be adapted for eliciting linguistic acceptability judgments. The article emphasizes that this technique solves the measurement scale problems plaguing conventional techniques and provides data that make fine distinctions robustly enough to yield statistically…

Duke, Robert A. – Journal of Research in Music Education, 1989
Assesses musicians' perceptions of beat in monotonic stimuli and attempts to define empirically the range of perceived beat tempo in music. Subjects performed a metric pulse in response to periodic stimulus tones. Results indicate a relatively narrow range within which beats are perceived by trained musicians. (LS)

See, Kelly E.; Fox, Craig R.; Rottenstreich, Yuval S. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2006
In 3 studies, participants viewed sequences of multiattribute objects (e.g., colored shapes) appearing with varying frequencies and judged the likelihood of the attributes of those objects. Judged probabilities reflected a compromise between (a) the frequency with which each attribute appeared and (b) the ignorance prior probability cued by the…

Blanchard, Harry E.; And Others – 1982
To conduct a series of studies and to provide other researchers with texts that may prove useful in answering a variety of questions about perception in reading, it was necessary for two researchers to create pairs of texts that were different in meaning but were physically different in only one letter. These texts were created by first…

Prout, H. Thompson; Phillips, Preston D. – Psychology in the Schools, 1974
This article introduces a new clinical technique for psychologists who examine children with school problems.
