Investigated the relationship between the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory paranoia subtle, neutral, and obvious subscales and criteria presumed to reflect various paranoid characteristics in a sample of male college students (N=100). When the precise basis of selection effect on correlation and regression equations is unknown but can be modeled by selection on a variable that is highly but not perfectly related to observed scores, the selection effects can lead to the commonly observed "overprediction" results in studies of predictive bias. Reviews Hanson's findings that laboratory research tends to demonstrate a positive correlation between attitudes and behavior while field research does not. A 75-item instrument was developed to assess high school students' attitudes toward work. Fifteen scales were derived. Analysis of responses from 1,035 students showed high reliabilities. Group differences based on age, sex, previous work experiences, and vocational ambitions lent support to the validity of the scales. (Author/CM)
