Martin, Harold P.; and others – Amer J Occup Therapy, 1969
Paper presented at the 48th Annual Conference of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Portland, Oregon, October 20-26, 1968. Research supported by U.S. Public Health Service Grant Number FR05357.

Suddick, Richard P.; And Others – Journal of Dental Education, 1982
Two tests of field dependence-independence (the Embedded Figures Test and Inverted Tracing Test) are examined as potential predictors of student clinical performance. Results suggest that field-independent students may have an advantage in the clinical dental curriculum. (Author/MSE)

Walsh, Warren D. – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1981
A study investigated the recall of terminal location and distance of both preselected and constrained movements. Systematic alteration of the magnitude and direction of the starting position for recall movements revealed that the distance moved significantly interfered with the recall of the terminal location, but that distance was usually…

Jarman, Ronald F. – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1979
Analyzes third grade children's performance on the Mueller-Lyer Illusion for whole and partial presentations of the figure. Results do not support Piaget's theory of perceptual development but are consistent with the theory of simultaneous and successive syntheses. (Author/BH)

Bountress, Nicholas G.; Sever, Joseph C. – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1990
The study examined 2 procedures--the ABX Test and the Oddity Task--for assessing the perception of 25 elementary grade phonologically disordered children of their own speech error sounds. Findings indicated both measures were promising and aided in identifying children whose perceptual errors influenced their speech-sound production. (DB)

Shapiro, Jon; And Others – Journal of Research in Reading, 1990
Administers a battery of auditory perceptual processing tasks to 103 reading disabled children and 103 average readers. Finds that auditory discrimination did not discriminate between the groups. States that 2 levels of phonological awareness exist and that screening and diagnostic instruments should address both to have predictive validity. (MG)

Smith, K. C.; And Others – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1989
Investigates influence of three variables--sex of stimulus person, sex type of subject, and sex of subject--on ratings of the social perception of anger expression. Finds that the variables were important predictors of perceptions of anger, and that type of anger response unexpectedly influenced ratings. (MW)

Stankov, Lazar; Seizova-Cajic, Tatjana; Roberts, Richard D. – Intelligence, 2001
Examined critical features of tactile and kinesthetic processes by administering 8 traditional psychometric instruments and 14 measures of tactile and kinesthetic perceptual processes to 116 female college students in Australia. Results show, as is consistent with earlier findings, that visual-spatial processes are difficult to separate from…

Elias, Lorin J.; Robinson, Brent; Saucier, Deborah M. – Brain and Cognition, 2005
Neurologically normal individuals exhibit strong leftward response biases during free-viewing perceptual judgments of brightness, quantity, and size. When participants view two mirror-reversed objects and they are forced to choose which object appears darker, more numerous, or larger, the stimulus with the relevant feature on the left side is…

Simcox, William A. – 1983
This investigation into the effects of configural properties (properties determined by the interrelationships existing between component parts) used a selective attention task to determine whether intersection is a primary encoding feature or is constructed after slopes and heights are perceived. The method for encoding feature identification,…

Melancon, Janet G.; Thompson, Bruce – 1987
This paper reviews the research literature regarding the importance of Witkin's theory of psychological differentiation, particularly the research on measures of field independence using perceptual disembedding tasks. The first phase of development of a multiple-choice perceptual disembedding measure, the Finding Embedded Figures Test, is…
