Consistency of Cognitive and Motor Performance Measures over Two Years in Reading Retarded Children.

Aman, M. F.; Mayhew, J. M. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
Children identified for specific reading retardation were tested at initial contact and after two years on a variety of measures including seat activity, and cognitive and motor steadiness tasks. Speed of response and motor steadiness showed moderate to very high consistency over the two years. (Author/SJL)

Women had higher high school grades and academic ability test scores in Grade 9. By 11 years after high school, men had more education and were earning more money. Self-report measures are positively related to the masculine Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) and are similar for males and females. The BSRI scores are positively related to other group members' evaluations of female leadership performance, but not males. Findings point to the complexities associated with sex-role research. Significant differences were found between the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised mean standard scores and Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQs. The PPVT-R did not correlate significantly with the WISC-R scales or subtests, suggesting the tests are measuring different abilities. (Author)

The utility of personality measures as predictors of voluntary withdrawal from college was investigated. Four criterion groups were formed: high-achieving persisters and withdrawals, and low-achieving persisters and withdrawals. Two significant discriminant functions were found and interpreted as academic aptitude and social immaturity. (Author/GK)

Among obese females following a behavioral weight loss program, a measure of perceived personal control significantly predicted outcome. Internals achieved greater mean weight loss. The internal control orientation was associated with higher extraversion and self-acceptance, but neither of these other variables correlated with weight loss. (Author)
