Ang, Rebecca P.; Chong, Wan Har; Huan, Vivien S.; Quek, Choon Lang; Yeo, Lay See – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2008
Teacher-student relationships have been extensively studied in preschool and early elementary school samples. However, much less is known about children's relationships with their teachers in upper elementary grades through high school. Using confirmatory factor analysis, this study extended previous research by providing further evidence for the…

Poteat, V. Paul; Spanierman, Lisa B. – Counseling Psychologist, 2008
To examine the validity and test the generalizability of the Psychosocial Costs of Racism to Whites Scale (PCRW) beyond the original college student sample, a geographically dispersed sample of employed White adults (N = 284) in eight states completed the measure to assess for White empathic reactions toward racism, White guilt, and White fear of…

Xu, Jianzhong – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2008
The purpose of this study is to test the validity of scores on the Homework Management Scale (HMS) using 681 rural and 306 urban high school students. Based on a randomized split of the rural sample, the author first conducts exploratory factor analysis on Group 1 (n = 341) and confirmatory factor analysis on Group 2 (n = 340). The results reveal…

Mushquash, Christopher J.; Stewart, Sherry H.; Comeau, Nancy; McGrath, Patrick J. – American Indian and Alaska Native Mental Health Research: The Journal of the National Center, 2008
Objective: The factor structure of the Drinking Motives Questionnaire-Revised (DMQ-R; Cooper, 1994) was examined in a sample of First Nations (i.e., Mi'kmaq) adolescents. Results: Exploratory principal components analysis indicated a three-factor structure (conformity, coping, and positive reinforcement motives), with the positive reinforcement…

Beck, Niels C.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1985
Examined the factor structure of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) in a sample of 200 medical patients and 271 psychiatric patients. Results indicate the WAIS-R has a robust factor structure and provide evidence of Verbal, Performance, and Freedom From Distractability factors in psychiatric and medical populations. (Author/BH)

Tanaka, J. S.; Huba, G. J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Discusses a Viet and Ware (1983) article which presented evidence from which they concluded that a strong, hierarchical factor of mental health underlay factors of psychological distress and psychological well-being. Reexamines the data using confirmatory factor analytic methods to assess the plausibility of their central model. (JAC)

Williams, J. Michael; Shane, Barbara – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Presents a scoring system and factor analysis for the Reitan-Indiana Aphasia Screening Test. Eight content categories were clinically identified and scored. The interrelationships of these content areas were explored by factor analysis. The analysis revealed two major factors, a general language abilities factor and a sensorimotor coordination…

Tanguma, Jesus – 2000
This paper presents four methods for determining the number of factors to retain: (1) determining an eigenvalue greater than unity (K1); (2) the scree test; (3) the minimum average parallel approach; and (4) parallel analysis. Three of the four methods are illustrated through an example. Although the eigenvalue greater than unity and the scree…

Rensvold, Rover B.; Cheung, Gordon W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1998
Summarizes the problem of factorial invariance in between-group difference studies, proposes a simplified notation intended to facilitate discussion of the problem, and suggests a structured approach for testing large models. Two computer programs are offered to help with the computation. (SLD)

Krijnen, Wim P.; Dijkstra, Theo K.; Gill, Richard D. – Psychometrika, 1998
Gives sufficient and necessary conditions for the observability of factors in terms of the parameter matrices and a finite number of variables. Outlines five conditions that rigorously define indeterminacy and shows that (un)observable factors are (in)determinate, and extends L. Guttman's (1955) proof of indeterminacy to Heywood (H. Heywood, 1931)…

ten Berge, Jos M. F.; Hofstee, Willem K. B. – Psychometrika, 1999
H. Kaiser (1992) has shown that the sum of coefficients alpha of a set of principal components does not change when the components are transformed by an orthogonal rotation. In this paper, the rotational invariance and the successive alpha-optimality are integrated and generalized in a simultaneous approach. (SLD)

Kiers, Henk A. L. – Psychometrika, 1997
Provides a fully flexible approach for orthomax rotation of the core to simple structure with respect to three modes simultaneously. Computationally the approach relies on repeated orthomax rotation applied to supermatrices containing the frontal, lateral, or horizontal slabs, respectively. Exemplary analyses illustrate the procedure. (Author/SLD)

Schneeweiss, Hans – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1997
A sufficient condition in terms of the unique variances of a common factor model is given for the results of factor analysis to come closer to those of principal components analysis. In general, vectors corresponding to loading matrices can be related to each other by a specific measure of closeness, which is illustrated. (SLD)

Jennrich, Robert I. – Psychometrika, 2001
Identifies a general algorithm for orthogonal rotation and shows that when an algorithm parameter alpha is sufficiently large, the algorithm converges monotonically to a stationary point of the rotation criterion from any starting value. Introduces a modification that does not require a large alpha and discusses the use of this modification as a…

Lester, David – Death Studies, 2004
In a study of 144 college students, the factorial structure of the Collett?Lester Fear of Death Scale matched the face content of the subscales quite closely, ameliorating the criticism of the scale by R. A. Neimeyer et al. (2003).
