Piccinin, Serge; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Undergraduates (N=111) participated in one of two cognitive behavioral training programs, which included behavior rehearsal, modelling, coaching, cognitive-restructuring, and emphasis on the transferability of skills. Neither self-report nor behavioral outcome differences between the facilitative versus the didactic approaches were noted. However,…

McReynolds, Leija V.; Jetzke, Elaine – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1986
A study explored the effect of training in pairs of voiced or voiceless sounds on 6- to 13-year-old prelingually deaf (N=8) children's generalization to cognates. Results showed that six of the eight children generalized both the voiced and unvoiced target sounds to 50 percent or more of the target sound probe items. (Author/CB)

Browder, Diane M.; And Others – Education and Training of the Mentally Retarded, 1984
To maximize effectiveness of instruction in daily living skills, teachers need procedures that are applicable to small group instruction, that promote generalization, and that can be replicated across skills. Wacker, David P.; Greenebaum, Ferris T. – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1984
Seven mentally retarded adolescents received either verbal or nonverbal training on a shape-sorting task within a multiple baseline design. Both training sequences resulted in the successful acquisition of the target performance, but only the verbal training sequence facilitated generalization of performance to a novel shape and to a new…

Ainley Janet; Wilson, Kirsty; Bills, Liz – International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, 2003
The Purposeful Algebraic Activity Project is concerned with the development of algebraic activity in pupils in the early years of secondary schooling. Here we report on the different ways in which we have observed children articulating generalisations during semi-structured interviews which are being used to gain snap-shots of this development. We…

Landa, Lev N. – 1998
This paper demonstrates how to design an instructional process aimed at teaching general methods of thinking, using the Landamatics theory and methodology. Landamatics is not a collection of lesson plans, but rather a general method of approaching the design of any effective course of instruction or any lesson plan. The method formulates general…

Ennis, Robert H. – Educational Researcher, 1973
Causal generalizations play a crucial role in educational decision-making: the prospect of discovering the relevant ones motivates much of the support that educational researchers receive and the failure to produce correct and relevant ones motivates much criticism; in this paper my concern is with how we tell when they are correct. Tennyson, Robert D. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1973
Results indicated that negative instances were an integral part of concept acquisiton. The relationship between the positive and negative instances was based upon similarity of irrelevant attributes and sentence difficulty. (Author)
