Chiriboga, David A; And Others – Journal of Divorce, 1978
Psychological well-being was explored in a sample of 309 newly separated men and women aged 20-79. Consistent with hypothesized differences, the men were significantly less happy than the women, and older respondents reported greater unhappiness than the younger. (Author)

The purpose of this study was to compare three different treatment modalities for divorce adjustment groups, that is, structured, unstructured, and control groups. Implications suggest that skill-building exercises might add an important therapeutic dimension for those experiencing adjustment to divorce. (Author)

This study tries to show that a theory of coalition formation based solely on sex is inadequate. Results indicated that both the frequency and the pattern of coalitions formed were significantly influenced by locus of control; thus the findings lend support to the basic reasoning of the researchers. Open-ended interviews were conducted with 39 paraprofessionals. Respondents viewed their work as having extensive influence on their lives, with 87% saying they had changed as a result of the experience and 92% regarding mental health work as a growth experience. The distribution of males and females on a job, occupational classification, and job content were examined as predictors of job sex stereotypes in two studies. Results indicate that the base rate of males and females in the job is the most important predictor of job sextypes. (Author)

This exploratory study tests the hypothesis that the precipitating event of "the loss or threatened loss of a love partner in the context of a negative value-orientation and intergroup pressures" is more likely to affect young Blacks who consider, plan, and attempt suicide than their Anglo counterparts. University of Texas at Austin assessed the career interest patterns of 3,921 incoming students during the 1977 summer orientation program. Results indicated that careers in the business area were most frequently listed as tentative career choices. Parents were cited most frequently as the major influence on students' career decisions. Although researchers have found differences in male and female respondents when investigating faculty and staff members in university decision making, no one has directly compared the interest and involvement of men and women.
