Cluster analysis, applied to Carroll's cognitive theory, indicates that the obtained clusters make intuitive sense and imply that taxonomy is possible. Tucker's method of oblique congruence rotation is shown to be equivalent to a procedure by Meredith. This implies that Monte Carlo studies on congruence by Nesselroade, Baltes, and Labouvie and by Korth and Tucker are highly comparable. The intercorrelations among the 12 subtests of the WISC-R were analyzed for each of the 11 age groups in the standardization sample. Clusters were found that corresponded to the verbal and performance Scales. There was also some evidence of a third group of subtests, drawn from both scales. (Author/BW)

A hierarchical factor model of the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI) (S. Reiss and others, 1986) was evaluated with 432 psychiatric outpatients and 32 people with no mental disorder. The dimensions underlying the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) (W. Goodman and others, 1989) were examined by performing a confirmatory factor analysis of the scale using responses from 404 patients. Results support a two-factor model of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, reflecting degree of disturbance and severity of symptoms. (SLD)

The psychometric properties of three coping inventories are examined: (1) the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (N. Endler and J. Parker, 1994); (2) the COPE (C. Carver and others, 1989); and (3) the Coping Strategies Inventory (D. Tobin and others, 1989). Three general factors were found across the three instruments. (SLD)

Conducted a meta-analysis of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) to ascertain the numbers of factors in the mental processing subtest of the K-ABC. Analyses yielded sequential and simultaneous processing factors, suggesting that the original K-ABC theory was not supported. (SLD)

Created an adaptation of the Digit Symbol subtest of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, the Digit Symbol Rotation test, and evaluated its "g" loading with 54 adults. Results suggest the Digit Symbol Rotation test has more factorial validity than Digit Symbol, but remains equally easy to administer and score. (SLD)

Studied the factor structure and other psychometric properties of S. Harter's (1988) Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents for 174 African American early adolescents. Findings yielded six conceptually relevant factors and also indicated gender differences in several domains. (SLD)

Explores posterior analysis in estimating factor score in a confirmatory factor analysis model with polytomous, censored or truncated data, and studies the accuracy of Bayesian estimates through simulation. Results support these Bayesian estimates for statistical inference. (SLD)

Developed an Italian version of the Self-Description Questionnaire (SDQ-III) and studied the reliability and factorial validity of this translated instrument. Results show that the translated version has psychometric properties similar to those of the original English version. (SLD)
