Anderson, Kenneth R. – 1974
This study used linear models developed by stepwise multiple regression to examine the relationship between performance at the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School and subsequent grade point average (GPA) at the USAF Academy. Data collected on Prep School graduates in the Academy classes of '71 through '77 who had completed at least…
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Correlation, Grade Point Average, Military Schools
Basler, Marilyn L.; And Others – 1974
This study predicts gymnastic performance, arousal, and anxiety measures from past performances. Pulse rate and the Palmar Sweat Index were utilized as indicants of arousal. Anxiety was assessed by means of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Eighteen members of the Ithaca College women's varsity gymnastic team were tested throughout the 1973-74…
Descriptors: Anxiety, Arousal Patterns, Gymnastics, Higher Education
Klitgaard, Robert E.; Hall, George – 1973
A statistical analysis of data on Michigan, New York City, New York state, and Project Talent schools found evidence of schools that consistently produce outstanding students even after allowance is made for the different initial endowments of their students and for chance variation. Methodologically, like many previous studies, this report uses…
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Educational Quality, Evaluation, Multiple Regression Analysis
Guinn, Nancy; And Others – 1970
The interrelationships between aptitude test performance and certain demographic-cultural variables were investigated, as well as the relationship between these variables and the aptitude test factor content. Five test batteries were administered to groups of approximately 1,900 subjects each. Multiple regression analyses indicated that there were…
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Cultural Influences, Demography, Multiple Regression Analysis
Nigro, George A. – 1971
A set of mathematical consistencies that forms conditions of inequality in a theorem is summarized, and a strategy for its application with real data is presented. The theorem and strategy are suggested for immediate use by the practitioner seeking cause-effect relationships in a system of variables to cut down guess work and time in analysis and…
Descriptors: Correlation, Educational Research, Hypothesis Testing, Mathematical Models
Peer reviewedHodowanec, George V. – College and Research Libraries, 1978
Multiple regression analysis was employed to determine three variables which best correlate with circulation: number of books added, full-time equivalent size of student body, and undergraduate and graduate courses offered. A regression equation recommending a predictive value for the number of books to be added was developed; data tables are…

Peer reviewedBlair, R. Clifford; Higgins, J.J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The controversy surrounding regression methods for unbalanced factorial designs is addressed. The statistical hypotheses being tested under the various methods, as well as salient issues in the use of these methods, are discussed. The use of statistical computer packages is also discussed. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Computers, Correlation, Hypothesis Testing
Peer reviewedSands, William A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Two computer programs (one batch, one interactive) are designed to provide statistics for a weighted linear combination of several component variables. Both programs provide mean, variance, standard deviation, and a validity coefficient. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Computer Programs, Data Processing, Multiple Regression Analysis, Online Systems
Peer reviewedGallagher, Daniel G. – Journal of Collective Negotiations in the Public Sector, 1978
Examines the impact of formal collective negotiations on six levels of the Illinois teacher salary schedule in the absence of comprehensive bargaining legislation. Results indicate a significant positive relationship between negotiations and teacher salary levels attributable to negotiation activity. (Author/IRT)
Descriptors: Collective Bargaining, Educational Research, Elementary Secondary Education, Multiple Regression Analysis
Peer reviewedAdams, Edward F. – Journal of Applied Psychology, 1978
Black male and white female managers were perceived as exhibiting more consideration behavior than white male managers do. (Author)
Descriptors: Administrators, Blacks, Females, Minority Groups
Peer reviewedKerwin, Mary Louise E.; And Others – Counseling Psychologist, 1987
Describes the strengths and weaknesses of a new type of multivariate technique, covariance structure analysis (LISREL). Provides a detailed example which shows how the use of covariance structure analysis can improve research sophistication and theory development in counseling psychology. (Author/ABB)
Descriptors: Counseling, Multiple Regression Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Psychology
Peer reviewedO'Hair, Dan; And Others – Communication Quarterly, 1988
Asks whether macro-assessment of honesty has utility for detecting deception. Multiple regression analyses indicate that honesty assessments can be only partially predicted from communication style, characterized by the level of friendliness, attentiveness, preciseness, animation, and dramatic style. (JK)
Descriptors: Communication (Thought Transfer), Communication Research, Credibility, Deception
Peer reviewedThompson, Bruce; Borrello, Gloria M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
Multiple regression analysis is frequently being employed in experimental and non-experimental research. However, when data include predictor variables that are correlated, some regression results can become difficult to interpret. This paper presents a study to provide a demonstration that structure coefficients may be useful in these cases.…
Descriptors: Correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedBranthwaite, Alan; Trueman, Mark – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
This paper presents two major criticisms of the construct validity investigation of the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities conducted by Watkins and Wiebe (1980). The criticisms pertain to the nature of the data presented and the accuracy and appropriateness of the statistical procedures employed. (BS)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Early Childhood Education, Multiple Regression Analysis, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedSnyter, C. Michael; Graham, John R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Investigated the utility of subtle items for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory PD and MA scales and compared college students' (N=98) scores on these scales with scores on similar instruments. Results showed that obvious items are of greatest utility and contribute most to the prediction of criterion behaviors. (LLL)
