MacCallum, Robert C.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
Questions are raised concerning differences between traditional metric multiple regression, which assumes all variables to be measured on interval scales, and nonmetric multiple regression. The ordinal model is generally superior in fitting derivation samples but the metric technique fits better than the nonmetric in cross-validation samples.…

Leitner, Dennis W. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1979
This paper relates common statistics from contingency table analysis to the more familiar R squared terminology in order to better understand the strength of the relation implied. The method of coding contingency tables was shown, as well as how R squared related to phi, V, and chi squared. (Author/CTM)

Brunk, H. D. – Psychometrika, 1981
Bayesian techniques are adapted to the estimation of stimulus-response curves. Illustrative examples deal with estimation of person characteristic curves and item characteristic curves in the context of mental testing, and with estimation of a stimulus-response curve using data from a psychophysical experiment. Musgrove, Walter J.; Musgrove, Glenn J. – Journal of Employment Counseling, 1979
This study attempts to determine the relationship between the subtests of the General Education Performance Index (GEPI) and the revised version of the General Educational Development Test (GED), and reports a technique whereby performance on the GEPI may be used to predict performance on the GED. Attiyeh, Richard; Engle, Robert F. – National Tax Journal, 1979
Data suggest that voters did recognize the implications of substantial reductions in government expenditures in Proposition 13 and voted to tolerate them. Journal availability: see EA 511 898. (Author/IRT)

Overall, John E. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1980
The use of general linear regression methods for the analysis of categorical data is recommended. The general linear model analysis of a 0,1 coded response variable produces estimates of the same response probabilities that might otherwise be estimated from frequencies in a multiway contingency table. Clegg, Ambrose A., Jr.; And Others – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1979
The application of multiple linear regression to the identification of appropriate criterion variables and the prediction of enrollment in college courses during a period of major rapid decline (1972-1978) are discussed. An example is presented. (Author/JKS)

Garms, Walter I. – Journal of Education Finance, 1979
Presents a new method of measuring the adequacy and equity of school finance systems using the multiple regression technique. It enables the separation of provisions for differences in district wealth from differences in tax rate, and of both of these from the differences in provision for needs and costs. (Author/IRT)

Hedges, Larry V.; Majer, Kenneth – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
The effect of adding a high school rating factor to high school grade point average and aptitude test scores in predicting freshman grade point average for minority students was investigated. The rating factor, based on prior students' performances from the same high school, added little to the prediction equation. (JKS)

Price, Forrest W.; Kim, Suk Hi – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
High school grades and ACT scores were used to predict grade point average for junior and senior business students. A large proportion of the variance in grade point average was explained by using grades and ACT scores with the aptitude measure making a larger contribution to the prediction equation. (JKS)

Zuelke, Dennis C.; Frohreich, Lloyd E. – Journal of Collective Negotiations in the Public Sector, 1977
Examines salary data for a sample of 50 small and medium-sized school districts in Wisconsin to determine how collective bargaining affects teacher salaries compared to other factors. Concludes that bargaining has had a significant negative effect on teacher salaries in these districts. (Author/JG)

Tucker, Mark; Wood-Turley, Sharon; Truong, Linh – Journal of Applied Communications, 1997
A survey of 392 readers of the University of Missouri agricultural college's magazine received 186 responses. Level of interest and source credibility were important preferences for alumni but less useful in explaining faculty preferences. (SK)

White, Arden; Hernandez, Nelda Rae – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1991
Discussion of journal article titles as an index to the contents, and thus to the underlying discipline, focuses on a study that was conducted to investigate the development of the field of counseling. Use of the Danielson and Bryan Index is described, and implications of a trend toward longer titles are suggested. (11 references) (LRW)

Kasarda, John D.; Irwin, Michael D. – Social Forces, 1991
Analysis of employment change data for 3,101 counties during recent national recession and recovery periods found that factors derived from human ecological theory (density, infrastructure age, unionization, labor force education, and crime rate) best predicted local competitive dynamics across all business-cycle phases. Contains 60 references.…

Clay, Daniel L.; And Others – Journal of Counseling and Development, 1993
Examines the relationship between anger expression and stressful life events as predictors of depression among college students. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses indicated that anger directed inward and stressful life events were significant predictors of depression. Because these factors are independent and additive predictors,…
