Whiteley, Susan E.; Doyle, Kenneth O. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Stable factors of student ratings of teachers have been found under a variety of settings. The author suggests that these factors are artifacts of the raters' implicit categories of teaching behaviors and are not necessarily reflective of the behaviors themselves. (JKS)

Shwalb, Barbara J.; Shwalb, David W. – Evaluation in Education: An International Review Series, 1985
Japanese school teachers provided examples of cooperative and competitive student behaviors in order to construct rating scales. Further ranking and factor analysis resulted in nine competitive and eight cooperative items. Age differences are discussed, as well as the Japanese society's encouragement of cooperative activities. The items are…

Baldauf, Richard B., Jr.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
The reliability and factorial validity of the Self Concept as a Learner Scale was studied, using 12-year-old Anglo-Australians. Reliability was acceptable for total scale and three subscales (task orientation, problem solving, and class membership), but not motivation. The validity of the factorial subscales was not confirmed. (GDC)

Marsh, Herbert W. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1985
This study examines the factor structure of response to the masculinity-femininity (MF) scale of the Comrey Personality Scales for males and females. The use of confirmatory factor analysis for testing hierarchical factor structures and factorial invariance is illustrated. The findings argue that MF is a multifaceted, hierarchical construct.…

Carroll, John B.; And Others – Intelligence, 1984
Whether "psychometric" and "Piagetian" kinds of intelligence are similar is a question of whether they have similar courses of development with age. When using factor analysis to address this issue, age effects must be eliminated in order to assess relations among measured constructs. Reanalyses of previous results were…

Thornburg, Kathy R.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1983
The Parent as a Teacher Inventory, a measure of parents' feelings and beliefs regarding interaction with their young children, was administered to 615 parents of preschool children. Bastick, Tony – 1999
A method for measuring the contribution an individual makes to group work is described, and its use is supported through a study of 57 university students aged from 20 to 46 years working in 8 groups of 4 to 10 members each. The method recognizes that the most valid sources of information on the contribution of each individual to the group work…

Robertson, Kevin R.; Milner, Joel S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Provided data on construct validity for the abuse and lie scales of the Child Abuse Potential Inventory using a sample of college students (N=176). Results confirmed additional validity for the abuse scale which measured inability to adapt. Validity for the lie scale was provided by its positive relationship to other scales. (Author/JAC)

Helmstadter, G. C.; Krus, David J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The Berkeley student evaluation questionnaire by Hildebrand, Wilson, and Dienst was modified to reflect the Whitely-Doyle factorial structure of implicit theories students hold about teaching characteristics of their instructors. Student ratings appear to be valid indicators of teaching competency, admissable as evidence to be used for faculty…
