Claudy, John G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1972
First purpose of this study was to investigate empirically the accuracy of prediction using regression weights selected through the use of variance-reduction procedures. (Author)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Error Patterns, Factor Structure, Item Sampling

Holly, Keith A.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1972
On the basis of the findings it would appear that mathematics instructors should consider seriously the use of Structure-of-Intellect factor tests for selection and placement of students. (Authors)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Algebra, Criterion Referenced Tests, Factor Structure

Kogan, Nathan; Pankove, Ethel – Child Development, 1972
A possible interpretation of the differential predictability across school systems as revealed in this study, is offered. (Authors/MB)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Creativity, Grade 10, Grade 5

Maguire, Gail Hills – Occupational Therapy Journal of Research, 1983
Describes a survey that collected information about perceived activity participation levels, health status, income, social supports, and life satisfaction of participants in a nutritional lunch program for the elderly. Results showed that perceptions of the above factors were significant predictors of life satisfaction. (NJ)
Descriptors: Gerontology, Life Satisfaction, Multiple Regression Analysis, Need Gratification

Davis, Judith A.; Plas, Jeanne M. – Journal of Special Education, 1983
An adaptation of Egon Brunswik's lens-model methodology was used for evaluation of consumer judgments concerning overall effectiveness of a special education inservice training program for rural area handicapped preschool children and their families. (Author)
Descriptors: Consumer Protection, Delivery Systems, Disabilities, Early Childhood Education

Wood, Peter H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulty level, the internal consistency, and the usefulness of the Nelson-Denny Reading Test (NDRT) as a predictor of college freshmen grades. Adding the NDRT to a prediction equation already containing high school grade point average did improve the prediction. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: College Entrance Examinations, College Freshmen, Grade Point Average, Higher Education

Joreskog, Karl G. – Psychometrika, 1978
A general approach to analysis of covariance structures is considered, in which the variances and covariances or correlations of the observed variables are directly expressed in terms of the parameters of interest. The statistical problems of identification, estimation and testing of such covariance or correlation structures are discussed.…
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Correlation, Critical Path Method, Factor Analysis

Drosler, Jan – Psychometrika, 1978
A method for incorporating decline over time of the predictive validity of scores into mental test theory is presented. The procedure utilizes concepts from multiple regression and analysis of repeated measures. (JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Multiple Regression Analysis, Predictive Validity, Psychometrics

Gray, Mary W.; Scott, Elizabeth L. – Academe: Bulletin of the AAUP, 1980
Identification, by regression analysis, of systematic salary discrimination against women faculty is possible and may suffice to induce institutions to make a commitment to an equitable salary structure. The uses of this analysis method and its results are discussed. (MSE)
Descriptors: College Faculty, Females, Higher Education, Merit Pay
Nestman, Chadwick H.; And Others – CAUSE/EFFECT, 1980
A study dealing with administrative computer centers in four-year institutions of higher education in the United States is described. Organizational impact on management of computers, descriptive findings about the institutions used in the study, factor analysis of dependent variables, and multiple regression analysis are reviewed. (MLW)
Descriptors: College Administration, Colleges, Computers, Data Processing

Stumpf, Stephen A.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, 1980
Examines the effects of equal employment opportunity regulation on the compensation practices of one organization over a three-year period. Female and minority employees who were employed at the time of the policy change received little benefit; newcomers experienced moderate benefit. (Author/IRT)
Descriptors: Compliance (Legal), Equal Opportunities (Jobs), Federal Regulation, Multiple Regression Analysis

Nelson, Larry R. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
The authors state that multiple regression is a powerful method of statistical analysis, provides a strength of relationship index, and should replace analysis of variance (ANOVA) in educational research. They also discuss the coding of categorical variables and available computer programs for multiple regression. (Author/MH)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Classification, Comparative Analysis, Computer Programs

Marjoribanks, Kevin – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
Using a national survey of 11-, 12-, and 15-year-old English students, the relationship between intelligence and academic achievement was examined at different levels of socioeconomic status and family environment. Regression surfaces were constructed from models which examined possible linear, interaction, and curvilinear relations between the…
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Elementary Secondary Education, Family Influence, Foreign Countries

Oxford, Rebecca L. – Applied Language Learning, 1996
Discusses the validity of the most widely employed second language learning strategy questionnaire, the English-as-a-Second-Language/English-as-a-Foreign-Language version of the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning). Details appropriate uses and limitations of questionnaires for strategy assessment. (80 references) (Author/CK)
Descriptors: Cognitive Style, English (Second Language), Learning Strategies, Measurement Techniques

Perosa, Linda M.; Perosa, Sandra L.; Tam, Hak Ping – Journal of Adolescent Research, 2002
Explored via questionnaires how intergenerational family systems theory is related to identity development in 164 undergraduate women. Found intergenerational factors of intimacy, intimidation, and individuation along with autonomy versus fusion, contributed variance to various identity statuses. (Author/DLH)
Descriptors: Emotional Development, Family (Sociological Unit), Family Environment, Multiple Regression Analysis
