This study suggests that the feelings of isolation experienced by some older people may be more likely than their actual lack of interaction. Data were collected from 163 subjects, aged 60 and older, by interview. Significant differences were obtained for the age and income variables and two of the proximity variables. (Author)

The Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory was administered to 138 students at the College of Education. The results suggest that development of favorable attitudes in prospective teachers may be facilitated by providing teacher trainees with internship experiences throughout their enrollment in teacher education. Students rated proctors, who had participated in a five-day workshop in human relations, as significantly more effective, understanding and helpful than proctors who had no such training. Moreover, students tutored by proctors trained in human relations demonstrated a higher quality of learning than those students tutored by untrained proctors.

Undergraduate students (N=49) participated in a group counseling study. Through use of questionnaires and rating scales, it was found that group counseling was able to reduce the rigid and authoritarian aspects of the belief systems of the experimental subjects. (SE)

This is the preliminary report of a new memory scoring method. Using the Wechsler Memory Scale as its base, it scores lateralized verbal and figural memory and long- and short-term memory. Six independent memory scales were developed. Studies of 105 subjects demonstrate that these scales are reliable and valid. (Author)

An electromyograph (EMG) feedback group of 10 normal undergraduate males received variable-tone feedback from the frontalis muscle. Comparisons showed that the feedback group achieved significantly lower EMG scores than the two control groups, but only one of the six measures of state anxiety favored the feedback group over the controls. Adolescents (N=36) categorized as nonobese, obese in a weight control program, and obese who rejected a weight control program were given opportunities to snack and were administered three personality tests.
