Population Council, New York, NY. – 1971
This annotated, 30-item bibliography of books, reports and articles is divided into topics identical to those described in SO 001 849. Notable among the items in this issue are: the Proceedings of the Fifth Princeton Conference on Population Genetics and Demography; a journal article on the genetic implications of population control; and several…
Descriptors: Abstracts, Annotated Bibliographies, Book Reviews, Contraception
Peer reviewedWade, Nicholas – Science, 1976
Discusses a publication entitled "Sociobiology" which contends that man's behavior is genetically determined, and the controversy surrounding this book. (MLH)
Descriptors: Behavioral Sciences, Biological Influences, Books, Genetics
Peer reviewedDorfman, D. D. – Science, 1978
Cyril Burt presented data in his paper that were in perfect agreement with a genetic theory of IQ and social class. A detailed analysis of these data reveals that they were fabricated from a theoretical normal curve, from a genetic regression equation, and from figures published more than 30 years before Burt completed his surveys. (Author/BB)
Descriptors: Ethics, Genetics, Integrity, Intelligence
Peer reviewedClear, Sarah-Jane – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1978
Explores (1) problems of the validity of tests of spatial ability, and (2) problems of the recessive gene influence theory of the origin of sex differences in spatial ability. Studies of cognitive strategies in spatial problem solving are suggested as a way to further investigate recessive gene influence. (Author/RH)
Descriptors: Genetics, Neurological Organization, Perspective Taking, Sex Differences
Peer reviewedNorth, J. C.; Dent, M. T. – Journal of Biological Education, 1978
A FORTRAN program is described which simulates point-substitution mutations in the DNA strands of typical organisms. Its objective is to help students to understand the significance and structure of the genetic code, and the mechanisms and effect of mutagenesis. (Author/BB)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Biology, College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction
A Survey of the Genetics Educational Needs of Indiana Secondary School Biology/Life Science Teachers
Peer reviewedMertens, Thomas R.; Hendrix, Jon R. – Hoosier Science Teacher, 1978
Reports the results of a questionnaire sent to 194 teachers. Questions included percentage of teachers using specified genetics topics in the classrooms and responses of the teachers to sixteen value-laden statements. Results indicate a need to refocus science teaching to emphasize the interface between biology and society. (MA)
Descriptors: Biology, Curriculum, Educational Research, Genetics
Peer reviewedSkibinski, D. O. F. – Journal of Biological Education, 1977
Descriptors: Biology, Computer Programs, Genetics, Heredity
Peer reviewedWalzer, Stanley; And Others – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and Allied Disciplines, 1978
This report summarizes preliminary results from a behavioral study of 13 male infants who were ascertained to have an XX Y sex chromosome complement at birth and who are being followed longitudinally through early ontogenesis. (CM)
Descriptors: Behavior Development, Behavior Problems, Behavioral Science Research, Congenital Impairments
Biological Sciences Curriculum Study Journal, 1978
Eleven guidelines are listed along with rationales. Considerations for the implementation of those guidelines, including content, target populations, delivery systems, and evaluation, are also included. The structure and functions of The Center for Education in Human and Medical Genetics are illustrated and discussed. (MA)
Descriptors: Biology, Curriculum Development, Elementary Secondary Education, Genetics
Biological Sciences Curriculum Study Journal, 1978
Recommendations are given for an educational program in human genetics. The ultimate goal of the program is the development of attitudes that foster effective decision-making about matters of personal health. An interdisciplinary approach is suggested. (MA)
Descriptors: Biology, Congenital Impairments, Diseases, Genetics
Peer reviewedWright, Susan – Environment, 1978
Examines American and British policies concerning DNA research and gene transplantation. (CP)
Descriptors: Biology, College Science, Genetics, Government Role
Peer reviewedSmith, Richard L., Ed. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1987
Reviewed are three computer software programs: the Astronomer (astronomy program for middle school students and older); Hands-on-Statistics: Explorations with a Microcomputer (statistics program for secondary school students and older); and CATGEN (a genetics program for secondary school students and older). Each review provides information on:…

Peer reviewedLaBuda, Michele C.; And Others – Child Development, 1986
A path model of genetic and shared family environmental transmission was fitted to general cognitive ability data from 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-year-old adopted and nonadopted children and their parents to assess the etiology of longitudinal stability from infancy to early childhood. (HOD)
Descriptors: Adoption, Behavior Development, Cognitive Ability, Cognitive Development
Peer reviewedKinnear, Judith F. – Journal of Biological Education, 1986
Focuses on genetic concepts that form key components of transmission genetics and illustrates how the domestic cat can be used in the teaching of these concepts. Offers examples of how laboratory experiences with the cat can enhance student learning of genetics. (ML)
Descriptors: Biology, Genetics, Heredity, Laboratory Animals
Peer reviewedNicholl, Desmond S. T. – Journal of Biological Education, 1986
Suggestions for instructional improvement are provided in two topic areas. Explains the use of models in helping students to visualize selected concepts in genetic engineering and recommends the use of tropical tuber crops for encouraging students to conduct practical investigations. (ML)
Descriptors: Biology, Botany, Genetic Engineering, Models
