On the basis of questionnaire measures of test anxiety, only those in the rational restructuring condition reported a significant decrease in subjective anxiety when placed in an analogue test-taking situation. Participants in the restructuring condition also reported greater generalized anxiety reduction in social-evaluative situations. (Author)

Findings indicate the Beck Depression Inventory is a valid instrument for use in a college population. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient between the inventory and psychiatric estimate fell to .30 in a second sample in which one-14 days intervened between administration of the inventory and the psychiatric interview (N=27). The effects of an audiotaped leaderless encounter group on training in basic helping skills were examined. No changes in trainees' self-actualization, trait or state anxiety, or rated verbal helping behavior were found due to participation in the encounter group. (Author)

Modification of instructions to the Activities and Competencies section of Holland's Self-Directed Search to allow users more flexibility in responding to items was compared to the standard set of instructions. Results indicated modified instructions did significantly alter users' summary codes although users were not more satisfied. (Author)

The Vocational Rating Scale (VRS) is a 40-item self-rating scale which attempts to directly assess the individual's awareness of the degree and nature of patterns in his or her specific vocational self-concepts. This study investigates the premarital contraceptive behavior of 222 male and female college students. Contraceptive practice was examined in relation to dating patterns, level of emotional involvement with sex partners, types of birth control used, number of different sex partners, and reasons for failure to use birth control.
