This study begins a systematic description of contemporary graduate training in counseling and clinical psychology, first by seeking major dimensions of training, then by comparing the two specialties on those dimensions. Effects of the Transcendental Meditation program in a maximum security prison were studied via cross-validation design. Meditation and control groups indicated reduction in anxiety, neuroticism, hostility, and insomnia as a function of the treatment. (Author)

The Eysenck Junior P.I. questionnaire was administered to groups of institutionalized and non-institutionalized delinquents and to non-delinquents. Items were analyzed to determine their effectiveness in predicting group membership. Comments by H.J. Eysenck are also presented. (Author/BP)

Reactions of observers, classified as either high or low in self-disclosure flexibility, to high and low behavioral samples of self-disclosure to a stranger were examined. Results suggest self-disclosure flexibility reflects perceptual awareness of social-situational norms governing the appropriateness of self-disclosing behavior. (Author)

An experimental study that evaluated an innovative approach to job placement is presented. Rehabilitation clients in the experimental group were taught job-seeking behaviors on an individual and self-help basis. The percentage of the experimental group who obtained jobs was much higher than control groups. (Author)

This study investigated the reasons why students in a particular curriculum choose not to attend an institution to which they were admitted. Results suggest various efforts academic departments might undertake in order to reduce the percentage of nonmatriculated students. (Author)

Examines some of the conditions associated with dissolution of the friendship tie. Subjects were 232 boys and girls between the ages of eight and 15 at a summer camp. The hypothesis that reduction in social interaction would be associated with increased probability of dissolution was not conclusively supported. (Author/HMV)

Evaluates the effect of integration and segregation of Blacks and whites in a small group setting in a work environment. Discriminant analysis suggests that while few behavioral and attitudinal differences exist between Blacks and whites, integration is beneficial to Blacks and not detrimental to whites. (Author)

Black graduate students (N=120) reported that the things they liked most about their university were the location and quality of education; the things they liked least were the racism and red tape. Changes they most wanted to see were better teaching, more Black faculty, and less racism. (Author)
