Werbel, Wayne S.; And Others – 1974
The purpose of this paper is to suggest a comparative morphology of groups which would be applicable to the whole of social scientific research. The key to the morphological classes suggested is not a focus on the group system itself but on its relationship with the next higher system--the group system's environment. The information exchange…

Dietzel, C. S.; Abeles, Norman – 1974
One hundred twenty tape recorded psychotherapy sessions representing early, middle, and late interviews with 20 clients were studied. Clients were divided into successful (N-10) and unsuccessful outcome (N-10) groups on the basis of clinicians' ratings of pre- and post-MMPI data. Raters scored the response units of clients and therapists and…

Fitzhenry-Coor, Ina; Buckholdt, David – 1973
A classroom observation procedure for recording and quantifying complex, sequential interactions between subject and teacher or peers has been developed. Two instruments, used in tandem, test hypotheses concerning the consistency of the subject's interactions. The Sequential Record, which is used to record observation, is analyzed for repetitious…

Rumery, Robert E.; Hartnett, Barbara M. – 1973
The use of Kruskal's nonmetric multidimensional scaling model for analysis of classroom interaction data is discussed. Four distance models are proposed which lead to multidimensional representation of single sequences, sets of sequences, and behavior categories using symmetric and conditional proximity options of the model. Results of application…

Hall, Gene E. – 1970
The Instrument for Analysis of Science Teaching (IAST) was developed as a 26-category system of interaction analysis. Following conceptualization and several research studies, the IAST was redeveloped with 14 basic categories (IAST Base) and an expanded 32-categories version (LAST v.2) which is based on subdividing the IAST Base categories. In…

Pena, Deagelia M. – 1972
One approach to the problem of analyzing classroom interaction by use of a Markoff chain is presented. The two sections of the paper present (1) a discusion of Hoel's test of order of a Markoff chain, and a Likelihood Ratio Criterion (LRC) for a two-dependent Markoff chain is given, and (2) a discussion of possible adjustments of Darwin's LRC with…

Mayhew, Bruce H.; Levinger, Roger L. – American Journal of Sociology, 1976
This study examines how group size affects power structure. Elementary conditions under which human interaction generally occurs constrain power to equalize as the length of the interaction sequence increases and to polarize as the size of the group increases. (Author/DE)

Coates, Brian – Child Study Journal, 1978
The consistency of eight attachment behaviors across a four-month period was investigated in two samples of infants. Multiple correlations revealed significant amounts of consistency in attachment behavior for vocalizing, visual regard, proximity to the mother from 10 to 14 months, and for touching and proximity to her from 14 to 18 months. Liska, Allen E. – Sociology and Social Research, 1978
Addressing the general problem of inferring the causal structure underlying the relationship among deviant behavior, attitudes, and associations, this paper examines four causal structures and seven patterns of deviance (cheating). (Author/JC)

Based upon research conducted aboard a ship, this article substantiates the hypothesis that whether or not homosexuality is excused will depend upon the compatibility of such tolerance with the prevailing terms being used to rationalize the experience of differential power. (Author/JC)

Byrd, E. Keith – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1978
The automatic interaction detector was applied as an evaluation tool to data normally collected by vocational-rehabilitation agencies. Demographic, service, and local agency variables were analyzed with mean weekly income at time of closure as the dependent variable. Recommendations for further research were made. (Author)
