The relationship between isolation in the elementary school classroom and self-concept was investigated. It was hypothesized that children who were isolated or rejected by their classmates would possess low self-concepts. No such relationship was found. The affective quality of relationships between noninstitutionalized white, elderly (65+) parents and their adult (21+) children was explored through interviews with 54 parent-child pairs. The health and the attitude toward aging indicator were found to be statistically significantly related to the family relationship indicator. (Author)

A Q-factor analytic technique applied to the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) basic interest scales of 156 males yielded three bipolar factors described as conceptual, interpersonal, and volitional. The present study explored the feasibility of teaching self-disclosure skills in an undergraduate program in teacher education. Family involvement is compared with friendship and neighboring to determine which has a greater impact upon the personal morale of the 409 elderly widows who were surveyed. Contact with family members, does little to elevate morale, while friendship-neighboring is clearly related to less loneliness and worry. (Author)

Survey and ethnographic data were used to explore attitudes toward death among members of varying social categories defined by race, age, social class, and sex. Analysis by age resulted in substantial differences, with middle-aged respondents (45-54 years) expressing greatest fears of death and the elderly (65-74) reflecting the least. (Author)
