Peer reviewedDavies, Peter – British Journal of Psychology, 1974
Article addressed itself to the questions of which stimuli make up a total conditioned stimulus configuration and what the role is of the period of illumination of the target. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Conditioning, Electrical Stimuli, Psychological Studies, Research Methodology
PDF pending restorationPhillips, G. Mann – 1977
Problems and strategies in implementing classroom token economy systems as a means of behavior modification are reviewed. Discussed is the importance of such factors in the original token plan as the reinforcement schedule, and time-out procedures. Among implementation issues considered are observing and counting behaviors. (CL)

Short-Term Memory for "Surprising" versus "Expected" Unconditioned Stimuli in Pavlovian Conditioning
Peer reviewedTerry, William S.; Wagner, Allan R. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, 1975
The major question of interest in the present investigation was whether or not a UCS is more effectively represented in STM when its occurrence is relatively surprising as opposed to expected. (Author)
Descriptors: Animal Behavior, Classical Conditioning, Diagrams, Experimental Psychology
Pavlovian Counterconditioning: Changing the Suppressive Properties of Shock by Association with Food
Peer reviewedPearce, John M.; Dickinson, Anthony – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, 1975
Two experiments demonstrated that Pavlovian counterconditioning alters not only the responses elicited by an aversive stimulus but also the capacity of that stimulus to act as a reinforcer in a fear-conditioning paradigm. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Animal Behavior, Classical Conditioning, Experimental Psychology, Flow Charts
Musgrove, Walter J.; Harms, Robert A. – Journal of the Student Personnel Association for Teacher Education, 1975
In this study 303 elementary school teachers were given a 20-item Likert scale with a five-choice response mode. Results indicated a somewhat positive attitude toward behavior modification. Other variables considered were age and educational level. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Age, Attitude Measures, Behavior Change, Conditioning
Corney, William J. – Journal of Business Education, 1975
Descriptors: Behavior Change, Behavior Development, Behavioral Objectives, Models
Peer reviewedBest, J. Allan – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1975
Concentrated cigarette smoke served as an aversive agent in the treatment of 89 habitual cigarette smokers. A factorial design assessed the incremental efficacy of three procedures as a function of client characteristics. Findings are interpreted as support for the principle of tailoring therapeutic procedures to individual differences. (Author)

Taylor, James S.; Holen, Michael C. – 1979
Eighty undergraduate students participated in an investigation of the effects on acquisition of immediate versus 30-second delay of reinforcement under either known or unknown response contingency conditions. The students in the four experimental conditions were required to depress three buttons in proper senquence. Following a correct response,…

Grimm, Clayford T.; Gross, James G. – 1958
The need for economic analysis of building walls is discussed, and the factors influencing the ultimate cost of exterior walls are studied. The present worth method is used to analyze three types of exterior non-loadbearing panel or curtain walls. Anticipated costs are expressed in terms of their present value per square foot of wall area. The…

O'Donnell, Patrick A.; Ohlson, Glenn A. – 1976
Criteria for applying aversive stimulation with severely handicapped children are examined, and practical and ethical issues are considered. Factors seen to influence punishment outcomes include timing, intensity, and schedule of reinforcement. Suggested is the need for further research on the comparative effectiveness of positive and negative…

Johnson, R. Gilmore; Scheurer, William E., Jr. – 1975
The research reported in this document was an attempt to replicate the study by Wish, Cautela, and Steffen, and to test the effects of covert reinforcement on overt behavior. The subjects were 50 college students who were presented the task of estimating the diameter of each circle in a series presented by slide projector. Pre- and post-treatment…
