Black male and female adolescents (N=27) were presented racial and attitudinal information about a hypothetical male or female counselor and asked to express their perceptions of the counselor. Attitudinal rather than racial information regarding a counselor had a more crucial effect in determining perception of the counselor. (Author)

Comparison of national data for 1960 and 1976 on educational requirements of jobs and workers' educational attainment, race, and sex indicates that overeducation has increased recently, chiefly because educational attainment has grown. Whites are still less overeducated than Blacks in jobs, but the gap has narrowed. (Author/RW)

Research on college choice as it relates to students' characteristics is reviewed, and the choice process is shown to be a complex series of activities, with individuals participating in it differently. Parent education is a stronger influence than race or gender. Groups are likely to respond to different marketing strategies. (MSE)

Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) and McCarthy Scales subtests were ranked according to relative reliance on left-cerebral-hemisphere function. Results suggest that black-white IQ discrepancies may be partially explained by differences in hemisphericity. (Author/RD)

Dealt with the association of race to mental test performance and how this association interacts with age and the instrument used. Summarizes perceptions, attitudes and beliefs of 751 Black and White eighth-grade students in Georgia. Results showed most get along well with their parents and considered their home atmosphere "very good." The highest number of runaways was among Black girls. Compared alternate forms of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised for (N=72) preschool children. Results indicated differences between Form L and Form M mean scores were nonsignificant for Whites, males, females, and the total group. Compared cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses in a national sample of women widowed in mid-life. Longitudinal comparisons failed to demonstrate a significant decline in income or financial well-being upon the death of spouses. Assesses the importance of age in determining the use of conventional and illicit drugs among secondary school students in Texas. Age-drug use relationships were examined in terms of sex, age, and residence of respondents. Rural students' use of deviant drugs exceeded that of urban students.
