Watkins, David; Thomas, Babu – Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, 1991
This study applied 2 U.S. instruments to assess 11 Indian graduate students' evaluations of teaching effectiveness. Results indicated high internal consistency, and the measures' items were seen as appropriate. Analysis suggested more overlap between teaching skill and enthusiasm than evident in Western studies. Japanese and U.S. mothers of three- to six-year-old children answered questionnaires about child-rearing practices. U.S. mothers expected their children to follow more rules than did Japanese mothers. Japanese mothers were more likely than U.S. mothers to use physical punishment when their children showed disrespect for authority. (BC)

This study assessed perceptions of child abuse by 133 Indian nationals representing either social workers, other human service professionals, or the general public. There were few variations in perceptions of the severity of different forms of abuse among groups. Cross-cultural comparison with a U.S. study indicated substantial differences. (DB)
