This paper reports the results of a recent study of the perceptions and attitudes about mental illness of 360 teachers in two rural North Carolina counties. To help a community toward self-help, adult high school students were trained to work with families selected for having problem children in schools or being under stress. Surveyed 80 Black adults to measure knowledge and attitudes about mental health agencies and counselors and recommend strategies for better mental health service delivery.
