Li, Yuan H.; Yang, Yu N. – 2001
An evaluation of the variation of item estimates was conducted for the multidimensional extension of the logistic item response theory (MIRT) model. The empirically determined standard errors (SEs) of marginal maximum likelihood estimation (MMLE)/Bayesian item estimates from 40 items from the ACT Assessment (Form 24b, 1985) were obtained when the…

Strand, Kenneth H. – Online Submission, 2000
This paper contains information concerning the following: 1. An overview of multivariate analysis of variance, and discriminant (DA) and canonical (CA) analyses. 2. An introduction to specification and measurement errors, and collinearity. 3. The sparsity of information concerning specification and measurement errors and collinearity as they…

Shoemaker, David M. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1973
Investigated empirically through post mortem item-examinee samplings were the relative merits of two alternative procedures for allocating items to subtests in multiple matrix sampling and the feasibility of using the jackknife in approximating standard errors of estimate. (Editor)

McMorris, Robert F. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1972
Approximations were compared with exact statistics obtained on 85 different classroom tests constructed and administered by professors in a variety of fields; means and standard deviation of the resulting differences supported the use of approximations in practical situations. (Author)

Cureton, Edward E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1971
A derivation of a formula for the stability coefficient is presented and discussed in terms of test reliability over time. (PR)

Thissen, David; Wainer, Howard – Psychometrika, 1982
The mathematics required to calculate the asymptotic standard errors of the parameters of three commonly used logistic item response models is described and used to generate values for common situations. Difficulties in using maximum likelihood estimation with the three parameter model are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Ryan, Joseph J.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
An examination of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) subtests and intelligence quotients in a diagnostically heterogeneous sample of patients referred for psychological or neuropsychological evaluation found that reliabilities and standard errors of measurement approximated normative group reports. WAIS-R is a reliable…

Williams, Richard H.; Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1980
It is suggested that error of measurement cannot be routinely incorporated into the "error term" in statistical tests, and that the reliability of test scores does not have the simple relationship to statistical inference that one might expect. (Author/GK)

Alderman, Donald L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Student self-selection in deciding to repeat a test was examined by contrasting the test performance of students taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) as juniors and again as seniors with the test performance of students taking the SAT only once as juniors. Results suggest there is self-selection in test repetition. (Author/GK)

Clarkson, Douglas B. – Psychometrika, 1979
The jackknife by groups and modifications of the jackknife by groups are used to estimate standard errors of rotated factor loadings for selected populations in common factor model maximum likelihood factor analysis. Simulations are performed in which t-statistics based upon these jackknife estimates of the standard errors are computed.…

King, Ronald – Educational Studies, 1980
The article discusses fallacious aggregation of educational research data about individuals and/or groups (i.e., one not representing an appropriate real group or real individuals). Examples of four types of research are presented--real groups fallaciously aggregated, fallacious aggregates treated as real groups, real groups treated fallaciously,…

A procedure for estimating the rates of false positive and false negative classification in a mastery testing situation is described. Formulas and tables are described for the computations of the standard errors. (Author/JKS)

Maller, Susan J.; Ferron, John – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Factorial invariance of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III) when administered to deaf children who use sign language was studied with 110 children and the WISC-III standardization sample of 2,200 children. Path coefficients, error variances, and factor covariances were not invariant, indicating that test…

Kane, Michael – International Journal of Testing, 2003
This book presents a comprehensive overview of univariate and multivariate generalizability theory, a psychometric model that provides a powerful approach to the analysis of errors of measurement through the use of random-effects and mixed-model analysis of variance. (SLD)
