A study investigated how political socialization within marriages affects political party affiliation. Findings indicated that the high degree of homogeneity of party preferences between spouses is due both to assortive mating and to influences of each spouse upon the other. For young children, socialization towards physical activity constitutes a significant part of a larger socialization process, communicating to them the concept of amplitude appropriation--that portion of the environment they envision as appropriate for their activity and the degree of movement they perceive as possible in that environment.
