The study evaluated a reality therapy program used with 20 institutionalized mentally retarded (mild to profound) and emotionally disturbed adolescents residing in an institution. Results indicated that 17 of the Ss increased adaptive behaviors and all decreased maladaptive behaviors. (DB)

The school counselor functions as a therapeutic model in many diverse roles. Modeling strategies include semantic modeling, self-disclosure, power in modeling, role reversal, and field modeling. Counselors must present an image of confidence and competence to their clients. (JAC)

Alcoholic women must receive treatment that considers psychological differences between men and women. The basic difference identified was the kinds of roles taken on by women compared to men's roles. The effect of edited videotapes combining self-modeling stimuli with cartoon reinforcements on the tantrum behavior of a seven-year-old schizophrenic retarded girl was evaluated. Results demonstrated a correlation between the videotape intervention and substantial reduction of tantrum behaviors along with an increase in task persistence. (CL)
