Peer reviewedWilson, Richard C.; Einbecker, Polly Godwin – Journal of Reading, 1974
Concludes that the reading ability of high school seniors accurately predicts academic performance during the freshman year in college. (RB)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Grade Prediction, Reading Ability, Reading Research
Pazandak, Carol H. – Measurement and Evaluation In Guidance, 1975
This study investigates the value of a potential moderator variable, student self-evaluation of previous academic effort, in increasing the validity of prediction of academic performance. Correlations between predictors and grades were consistently higher for the high level of effort group. (Author)
Descriptors: College Freshmen, Grade Prediction, Higher Education, Predictor Variables
Peer reviewedLotter, Victor – Journal of Autism and Childhood Schizophrenia, 1974
Descriptors: Adolescents, Autism, Emotional Disturbances, Exceptional Child Research
Peer reviewedZafirau, S. James – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1974
From the resulting estimated predictive model, occupational socioeconomic status was examined through 16 predictor variables. Path analysis confirmed that a respondent's education, adult social class, and father's occupational socioeconomic status were principle predictors of the respondent's occupational socioeconomic status. Good, Ron; And Others – 1988
The science learning cycle developed by Robert Karplus and others in the 1960's has been a useful model for many science teachers and researchers. This model stresses the use of structured inquiry to organize knowledge acquisition and problem solving. Recent research in the cognitive science tradition, however, has shown that learning and problem…

Jackson, Linda A.; And Others – 1987
Early research demonstrating an association between success and the male stereotype and between failure and the female stereotype, and the Bayesian analysis of attribution theory provided the bases for predictions about the effects of gender and performance outcomes on probability estimates of future success. The relation between gender…

Peer reviewedKun, Anna; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1974
Reports three studies that examined developmental changes in the integration of ability and effort information to predict performance. Children aged 6-11 years and adults were used as subjects. Findings involved developmental progression in the integration process, use of both cues in forming judgements, and the importance of effort. (Author/SDH)
Descriptors: Ability, Achievement, Adults, Age Differences
Peer reviewedFincher, Cameron – Review of Educational Research, 1974
The effectiveness of the SAT, in combination with high school records, in predicting college grades is established; its cost effectiveness, however, was not determined. Other uses and considerations of the test appear to be relevant and in need of more study. (JH)

Peer reviewedHarris, Elizabeth L.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1974
One hundred and eighteen subjects participated in an 18-trial four-choice probability learning task to determine if probability learning data could be described by a family of learning curves and to identify ability and personality correlates of these curves. (Author)
