When the precise basis of selection effect on correlation and regression equations is unknown but can be modeled by selection on a variable that is highly but not perfectly related to observed scores, the selection effects can lead to the commonly observed "overprediction" results in studies of predictive bias. Results indicated that adolescents using positive or neutral voice tones during emotionally laden discussions with their parents tended to show relatively adequate levels of psychosocial adjustment as young adults, while adolescents using exclusively negative voice tones tended to show adjustment difficulties in early adulthood. The Yellow Brick Road was administered to preschool children. Normative data were obtained via a principal-components analysis. Results indicated that all subscales tapped a common factor. The auditory subscale appeared to be the best overall predictor. More normative date are needed regarding this first-grade-readiness test. (Author)

Details the results of a large-scale field study aimed at testing two theories on human crowding. Found that psychological factors are increasingly important for the prediction of crowding as one moved from the immediate residence to the less immediate city level. This study attempts to determine the relationship between the subtests of the General Education Performance Index (GEPI) and the revised version of the General Educational Development Test (GED), and reports a technique whereby performance on the GEPI may be used to predict performance on the GED. To determine if university students would accurately report their grade point averages (GPAs) to a researcher, 525 students were asked to fill out data sheets. When 62 of the self-reported GPAs were compared with official records no significant differences were found, indicating students can and will accurately report their GPAs. (DS)
