Whitaker, Jean S. – 1997
The increased use of multiple regression analysis in research warrants closer examination of the coefficients produced in these analyses, especially ones which are often ignored, such as structure coefficients. Structure coefficients are bivariate correlation coefficients between a predictor variable and the synthetic variable. When predictor…

Rodriguez, Maximo – 1997
Factorial analyses differ from nonfactorial analyses in that in the former all possible hypotheses (all possible main effects and interaction effects) are tested regardless of their substantive interest to the researcher and their interpretability, while in the latter, only substantive and interpretable hypotheses are tested. This paper shows the…

Rennie, Kimberly M. – 1997
Rotation is used in almost all exploratory factor analysis (EFA) studies. There are numerous rotation strategies that can be employed in these various applications. This paper reviews the various rotation choices in EFA studies, including confirmatory rotation, and presents criteria useful in selecting rotation methods in various analytic…

Evans, Victoria P. – 1999
The central objective of factor analysis is to explain the greatest amount of variance in a data set with the smallest number of factors. Higher-order analysis is an invaluable tool that offers the benefit of parsimony provided by first-order analysis with the opportunity to make data-based generalizations beyond the first-order. Higher-order…

Nasser, Fadia; Wisenbaker, Joseph; Benson, Jeri – 1998
Logistic regression was used for modeling the observation-to-indicator ratio needed for the standard error scree procedure (SEscree) to correctly identify the number of factors existing in generated sample correlation matrices. The created correlation matrices were manipulated along the number of factors (4,6), sample size (250, 500), magnitude of…

Arbona, Consuelo; And Others – 1991
A sample of 364 Mexican-American college students were used to study the adequacy of Keefe and Padilla's model and measure of cultural change. Keefe and Padilla developed an empirical measure yielding two divergent factors, labeled as Cultural Awareness and Ethnic Loyalty. An additional factor, labeled Ethnic Social Orientation, referred to…

Martin, James K.; McDonald, Roderick P. – Psychometrika, 1975
A Bayesian procedure is given for estimation in unrestricted common factor analysis. A choice of the form of the prior distribution is justified. The procedure achieves its objective of avoiding inadmissible estimates of unique variances, and is reasonably insensitive to certain variations in the shape of the prior distribution. (Author/BJG)

Meyers, Lawrence S.; Boldrick, Deborah – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1975
Two experiments attempted to determine the importance of the integrating theme in memory for a prose passage. (Editor)

Bowker, Lee H. – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1975
The college student drug users are likely to be male, urban, Jewish or nonreligious, humanities or social sciences majors, upper middle class, politically liberal or radical, and they are likely to rate their general health as somewhat lower than average. Grades and class in college were not consistently related to drug use. (Author)

Shikiar, Richard – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1974
Represents an attempt to jointly scale both political issues and political candidates in the same space, using Tucker's (1972) three-mode mutidimensional scaling model. (Author/RC)

Bechtoldt, Harold P. – Psychometrika, 1974
Procedures developed by Joreskog for studying similarities and differences in factor structures between different groups were applied to data from a study by Thurstoen to investigate the sampling stability of a hypothesized isolated configuration. The hypothesis of an isolated configuration was rejected but not by much. (Author/RC)

Marsh, Herbert W. – 1988
During the last 15 years, there has been a steady increase in the popularity and sophistication of the confirmatory factor analysis approach to multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) data. However, important problems exist, the most serious being the ill-defined solutions that plague MTMM studies and the assumption that so-called method factors primarily…

To test whether or not the factor structure of the Adaptive Behavior Scale (Part I) (ABS) differs when community-based mentally retarded subjects are used rather than institutionalized retarded subjects, the ABS was administered to 100 mentally retarded adults living at home and being served by community daytreatment programs. A principle…
