Peer reviewedCulnan, Mary J.; And Others – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1990
Describes a study that was designed to document through citation analysis the intellectual development of research on organizations for the years 1972-84. Organizational theory and organizational behavior are highlighted, the use of author cocitation analysis is explained, and future research is suggested. (17 references) (LRW)

Peer reviewedDolan, Conor; Bechger, Timo; Molenaar, Peter – Structural Equation Modeling, 1999
Considers models incorporating principal components from the perspectives of structural-equation modeling. These models include the following: (1) the principal-component analysis of patterned matrices; (2) multiple analysis of variance based on principal components; and (3) multigroup principal-components analysis. Discusses fitting these models…

Peer reviewedTokar, David M.; Fischer, Ann R.; Snell, Andrea F.; Harik-Williams, Nahla – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1999
Results of confirmatory and exploratory analyses of 485 nonstudent adults' (N=485) responses to the NEO Five-Factor Inventory indicate that a six-factor model best fit the data. Results show some empirical justification for using the NEO Five-Factor Inventory to assess clients' and research participants' core personality traits. (Author/MKA)

Peer reviewedForsterlee, Robert; Ho, Robert – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1999
Studied the factor structure of the Need for Cognition Scale (NFC) (J. Cohen, E. Scotland, and D. Wolfe, 1955) (short form) with samples of 510 and 697 Australian adults. Results support the use of the short version of the NFC with Australian samples. (SLD)
Descriptors: Adults, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Test Format
Peer reviewedKranzler, John H.; Keith, Timothy Z. – School Psychology Review, 1999
Uses confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to address unresolved issues concerning the structure of the Cognitive Assessment System, a test of intelligence based upon the planning, attention, and simultaneous-successive (PASS) processes theory of human cognition. Results reveal that the CFA of the standardization data do not support use of the CAS…

Peer reviewedKazelskis, Richard – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1998
The factor structure of three commonly used measures of mathematics anxiety was examined using a sample of 323 undergraduates in an algebra class. Six oblique factors were identified, but results did not support the existence of a single common dimension of mathematics anxiety as represented by the six factors. (SLD)
Descriptors: Algebra, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Higher Education
Peer reviewedMajors, Mark S.; Larson, Lisa M. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2001
Factor analysis of the female and male Business Education Teacher Occupational Scales of the Strong Interest Inventory revealed two occupationally specific factors that differed from the General Occupational Theme scales. Results provide evidence of the existence of occupationally unique interest structures. (SK)
Descriptors: Business Education Teachers, Factor Analysis, Measures (Individuals), Occupational Clusters
Peer reviewedZand, Debra H.; Gouwens, Donald L.; Evenson, Richard C. – Psychology in the Schools, 2001
Investigates the factor structure and reliability of the Saint Louis Symptom Checklist (SLSCL) with an adolescent sample. An exploratory principal components factor analysis followed by a varimax rotation of 209 male and female adolescents yielded eight conceptually relevant factors. Discusses directions for future research. (Contains 11…

Peer reviewedValentine, Kristin B.; And Others – Communication Reports, 1995
Constructs and tests two measures of audience response to performance of literary text. Finds that the first measure (analyzing audience response to open-ended questions) was useful in discriminating responses across performances, but needs further work in clarifying relative importance and interrelationships; and the second measure (a…
Descriptors: Affective Measures, Audience Response, Communication Research, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedZoski, Keith W.; Jurs, Stephen – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1996
A linear regression approach to determining the number of factors in factor analytic solutions is presented. It provides objectivity while producing the same results as the visual scree test. Experience with the method to date indicates that the results are consistent with visual solutions. (SLD)
Descriptors: Error of Measurement, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Regression (Statistics)
Peer reviewedOsipow, Samuel H.; Winer, Jane L. – Journal of Career Assessment, 1996
The history, development, and empirical foundations of the Career Decision Scale are reviewed. Its uses in program planning and with special populations, as well as gender and cross-cultural issues, are discussed. Controversies over the factor structure are addressed. (SK)
Descriptors: Career Counseling, Decision Making, Factor Analysis, Measures (Individuals)
Peer reviewedShechtman, Zipora; Perl-Dekel, Ofra – Journal for Specialists in Group Work, 2000
Compares therapeutic factors in verbal and art group psychotherapy in a psychiatric day-treatment clinic in Israel. Results only partly support the differences between modalities, but do reveal significant differences between participants with only a few interactions between participants and modalities. All therapeutic factors appear in both…

Peer reviewedMacCallum, Robert C.; Widaman, Keith F.; Preacher, Kristopher J.; Hong, Sehee – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2001
Examined the effects of sample size and other design features on correspondence between factors obtained from analysis of sample data and those present in the population from which the samples were drawn, examining these phenomena in the situation in which the common factor model does not hold exactly in the population. Tested a theoretical…

Peer reviewedGessaroli, Marc E.; De Champlain, Andre F. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1996
Proposed an approximate chi square statistic based on the nonlinear factor representation of R. McDonald (1967) and investigated it with simulated data. The approximate chi square statistics had good control over Type I errors when unidimensional data were generated and displayed good power in identifying the two-dimensional data. (SLD)

Peer reviewedVandiver, Beverly J.; Fhagen-Smith, Peony E.; Cokley, Kevin O.; Cross, William E., Jr.; Worrell, Frank C. – Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development, 2001
Describes the theoretical and empirical evolution of the revised Cross nigrescence identity model (W. E. Cross, 1991) in the context of developing a new multidimensional measure, the Cross Racial Identity Scale. The research resulted in an expanded nigrescence model, and preliminary factor analytic strategies support the existence of 6 subscales.…
