Examined predictors of academic achievement of 111 adult female students to provide information fo reentry admission criteria. Results showed self-confidence and past academic records, even when dated, offered a sound basis for predicting performance. Age, children, and years away from school were unrelated to success. Examined failure to graduate from high school as a function of grade point average and substance abuse among Phildelphia high school students (N=427). Results of multiple regression analyses indicated that the gradepoint averages are more powerful predictors to eventual failure to graduate than are "Drug Severity Index" scores. (BL)

A model using four categories of college applicants (enrollment deposit paid, deposit not yet paid, applicants not yet admitted, and those who have not yet applied) that allows forecasting of freshman enrollment from any point in the admission process and simulates the effects of trends and strategies on enrollment is outlined. A noncompensatory selection model for choosing graduate students correctly predicted 61 percent of the successful students. The compensatory model was able to correctly predict only 21 percent of those who succeeded. (RM)

Tests 107 kindergarten and first grade children to study the order-irrelevance principle. Willingness to arbitrarily assign tags is a developmentally less sophisticated ability than--and hence does not necessarily imply--an ability to predict that differently ordered counts produce the same cardinal designation. Examined the relationship between personal strengths and college admissions in a study of 205 students who completed a questionnaire. Responses were compared with students' entering credentials and grades. Results showed that intellectual and personal strengths, added to statistical data, could greatly improve the prediction formula. (JAC)

High school students read and were immediately tested on a prose passage, then estimated how well they would score if tested after a delay of 1, 8, or 15 days. Students expected a larger amount of forgetting than actually occurred and failed to predict positive effects of note-taking. (PN)
