Fourth and fifth grade boys who were or were not rejected by peers reported how they would handle conflictual interactions described in vignettes. Rejected boys who were aggressive or residual, that is, neither aggressive nor submissive, exhibited less integration of personal and relational goals than did nonrejected boys. (BC)

This study examined the amount of psychosocial disturbance experienced by adults (n=53) in India with epilepsy, as well as the relationship between psychosocial dysfunction, duration of illness, and computerized axial tomography findings. Results indicated that three-quarters exhibited no or very mild psychosocial dysfunction. (DB)

A cognitive, nonintrusive method of controlling head-rocking behavior in an 11-year-old blind subject involved having the boy place his hand on his cheek or chin when prompted that he was rocking his head. Self-rated and teacher-rated social competence levels were obtained for 121 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who were normal, depressed, or had conduct problems. Depressed children's self-ratings of social competence were lower than self-ratings of children in other groups. There were no teacher-rated differences. (BC)

Three adult subjects with mild mental retardation were trained in individualized social skills and then taught to self-monitor their behavior, initially using a self-monitoring device. Four dimensions of self-concept (academic, social, athletic, and evaluative) were evaluated with 97 junior high school students (45 gifted and 52 average ability).
