Sugden, D. A. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1978
This investigation attempted to describe the developmental sequence of visual motor short term memory in mentally handicapped boys (mental ages 6, 9, and 12) during conditions of rest and interpolated activity, and to explore their use of spontaneous rehearsal strategies. Results are compared with those for normal boys. (Author/SJL)

Metzger, Richard L.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1979
The classroom as a context affecting memory was investigated using a multiple time-series design. Two undergraduate classes were given quizzes in their regular classroom over a baseline period, were moved to a different room, and finally were returned to their classroom. Moving had a significant deleterious effect. (Author/RD)

Ribich, Fred D.; Schmeck, Ronald R. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1979
Three self-report instruments assessing learning style were administered to 106 undergraduates. Performance measures on word list and prose learning tasks were also obtained using both immediate and delayed retention tests. Canonical correlation analysis of the pairs of instruments indicated a small to moderate amount of overlapped variance.…

Orwig, Gary W. – Educational Communication and Technology: A Journal of Theory, Research, and Development, 1979
The first experiment determined that verbal interference (shadowing) was detrimental to the subjects' memory of words and high similarity pictures; the second, designed to minimize the possibility that students would sort through the pictures, indicated that verbal interference did not decrease memory of high similarity pictures. (Author/JEG)

Peng, Chao-Ying; Levin, Joel R. – Educational Communication and Technology: A Journal of Theory, Research, and Development, 1979
It was found that story relevant pictures help children recall stories, and the second graders in the study retained over a three day period. Although they had more to forget, children aided by pictures did not forget more than those in a control group. (Author/JEG)

Royer, Paula Nassif – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1977
Subjects received either specific or general objectives before or after the four sections of the audiotaped lecture. A control group received no objectives. Results on the use of objectives with written text showed that the before position increased intentional learning more than the after position. Incidental learning was significantly higher…

Morrison, Frederick J.; And Others – Science, 1977
In a task designed to separate perceptual processes from memory, reading-disabled 12-year-olds showed no perceptual deficits as compared to their peers. However, they exhibited major deficiencies in memory skills, appearing to suffer from a basic information-processing deficiency. (Author/CS)

Wetherick, N. E.; Alexander, Jane – British Journal of Psychology, 1977
A previous finding that adults recalled more words if the words were drawn from one semantic category than if they were drawn from more than one was confirmed for children down to age five. (Editor)

Pellegrino, James W.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Comparisons between recall levels following simple acoustic or visual tasks and the simultaneous visual-plus-acoustic task are not based upon equivalent amounts of interference within each modality. This research attempts to test more precisely the relationship between visual and acoustic interference by using a sequential rather than a…

Greitzer, Frank L. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
In two experiments on free and cued recall, spacing between categorically related items, presentation rate and category size were varied and the effects on recall of items as a function of their serial order were studied. Results suggest subjects organize material during acquisition by retrieving and rehearsing previously studied items. (CHK)

Lunzer, E. A.; And Others – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
Tests of reading and mathematical understanding were administered to 210 children from three socio-economic backgrounds who had been tested 12 months earlier during their first year at school (AA 525 131). (Editor/RK)

Seamon, John G.; Murray, Pauline – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Structural and semantic levels of processing were distinguished in two experiments that varied stimulus meaningfulness in an incidental learning paradigm. (Editor)

DeRosa, Donald V.; Tkacz, Sharon – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
A recognition memory experiment investigated memory scanning when stimuli were organized but not easily labeled verbally. The principle findings indicated that the organization of the to-be-remembered sets had a pronounced influence on performance. (Editor/RK)

Lee, Catherine L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Memory for sequences of briefly presented letters was examined to discover the effects of intraserial repetition and acoustic contrast on recall of a critical letter pair. (Editor)
