Merluzzi, Thomas V.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Clients (N=92) from two mental health centers took the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the Social Interaction Self-Statement Test (SISST) during the intake process. Results indicated that the Social Introversion (SI) scale of the MMPI was the most efficient predictor of the SISST scales. (BH)

Dunn, Rita; And Others – Phi Delta Kappan, 1977
If students were taught according to the results of learning style evaluations, students would be more likely to learn and educational malpractice suits would be dismissed. (Author/IRT)

Soderberg, Lanny O. – California Journal of Educational Research, 1971
Comparison of two groups of graduate students on each of three achievement criteria gave no evidence that either of two pretests (one course-relevant cognitive, the other non-relevant affective) was influential. (NH)

Lefcourt, Herbert M.; Telegdi, Melanie Smith – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
The data revealed significant interactions between locus of control and field dependence. As predicted, internal field independent Ss scored highest on all measures. In contrast to the hypotheses, however, external field dependent Ss were not the lowest scorers. Rather, the theoretically incongruent groups scored lowest on each measure. (Author)

Yeh, Joyce W.; Rie, Ellen D. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1982
The performance of 18 neurocognitively impaired learning disabled children (6 to 10 years old) on visual abstraction was compared to that of 20 intact learning disabled (LD) and 20 normal children. The Abstraction Test for Children was specifically developed and standardized as the measure of abstraction. (Author)

Benner, Hazel; Wheldall, K. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1981
Reports a new technique for assessing conservation of liquid quantity using sealed bottles. When used with a sample of 40 six- and seven-year-olds, results correlated strongly with those of the traditional Piagetian task involving pouring. (SJL)

Rourke, Byron P.; Fuerst, Darren E. – Assessment, 1996
Evidence bearing on the relationships between profiles of neuropsychological assets and deficits, subtypes of learning disabilities, and patterns and degrees of psychosocial functioning is reviewed. Conclusions related to the neurodevelopmental bases of psychosocial functioning in children with nonverbal learning disabilities are emphasized. (SLD)

Bernardi, Richard A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Using a factorially complex test on a highly homogeneous population is explored, and a procedure is demonstrated that can statistically justify using a cognitive test on which Cronbach's alpha is low. The example involves 649 accountants (auditors). Results indicate that unbundling test and sample provides justification for using the data. (SLD)

Anderson, Britt – Intelligence, 2001
Makes the case that "g" (general intelligence) can arise from the effect of shared genes influencing cognitive test performance and provides a simple mathematical demonstration of how this occurs. Predicts the need for a profound shift in the search for biological bases of "g." (Author/SLD)

Cassady, Jerrell C. – Learning and Instruction, 2004
This study tested the hypothesized negative impact of cognitive test anxiety in the test preparation, performance, and reflection phases. Data available from the participants (n=124) included test anxiety, study skills, perceived threat of tests, and performance attributions. Preparation phase data revealed, compared to their counterparts, that…

Ketterlin-Geller, Leanne; Jung, Eunju; Geller, Josh; Yovanoff, Paul – Behavioral Research and Teaching, 2008
In this technical report, we describe the development of cognitive diagnostic test items that form the basis of the diagnostic system for Project DIVIDE (Dynamic Instruction Via Individually Designed Environments). The construct underlying the diagnostic test is division of fractions. We include a description of the process we used to identify the…

Slade, Peter D.; Townes, Brenda D.; Rosenbaum, Gail; Martins, Isabel P.; Luis, Henrique; Bernardo, Mario; Martin, Michael D.; DeRouen, Timothy A. – Psychological Assessment, 2008
When serial neurocognitive assessments are performed, 2 main factors are of importance: test-retest reliability and practice effects. With children, however, there is a third, developmental factor, which occurs as a result of maturation. Child tests recognize this factor through the provision of age-corrected scaled scores. Thus, a ready-made…
