Mullins, Cecil J.; Usdin, Eugene – 1970
In a training situation, the standard procedures for predicting performance entail long delays between the request for a predictive instrument and its delivery. Methods were developed for constructing psychological prediction instruments at the time of the request, rather than waiting for the maturation of the criterion data. The two synthetic…

Goldstein, Leo S.; Barrows, Thomas S. – 1972
A battery of instruments intended to predict on-the-job performance of patrolmen was administered to civil service police applicants, and the resulting data were factor analyzed. The factor structures which emerge closely resemble the intended structures and appear promising for planned predictive studies of criterion performance on the job. The…

Lewis, Michael; McGurk, Harry – 1972
Infant intelligence from birth until the age of two was measured to determine the usefulness of infant intelligence tests. Twenty infants were tested regularly over the two-year period. Results showed neither simplex nor other long-term patterns of interrelationship among the infant intelligence scores obtained. The study concludes that the…

Satz, Paul; Friel, Janette – 1972
Based on a conceptualization of specific learning disability within a developmental rather than disease model, the longitudinal research project attempted to assess early indices of later reading disability. Kindergarten boys (N equals 474) were tested at the beginning of the school year on a number of developmental and neuro-psychological tests…

VAN RIPER, CHARLES – 1966
THE CONSTRUCTION OF A TEST TO IDENTIFY DEFECTIVE ARTICULATION IN FIRST-GRADE CHILDREN WAS REPORTED. THE "EMPIRICAL SCALE DERIVATION METHOD" WAS SELECTED AS THE MOST APPROPRIATE TECHNIQUE TO SEEK TEST ITEMS FOR THE PREDICTION OF ARTICULATORY MATUARATION. AFTER SELECTION AND REDUCTION TO 135 TEST ITEMS, AN EXPERIMENTAL ITEM POOL WAS…

KIM, SHARON; LETON, DONALD A. – 1966
CERTAIN TYPES OF INTELLECTUAL ABILITIES WHICH DEFINE THE MATHEMATICAL APTITUDES OF NINTH-GRADE STUDENTS AND WHICH RELATE TO ACHIEVEMENT IN SPECIFIC MATHEMATICS COURSES WERE DEFINED AND EVALUATED. ANALYSES OF VARIANCE AND COVARIANCE INDICATED THE RANGE OF VARIATION IN EIGHT TEST SCORE DISTRIBUTIONS OF VERBAL AND MATHEMATICAL APTITUDES AMONG FIVE…

Levin, Bernard H.; And Others – 1976
This paper reports the results of a study conducted to examine the predictive validity of the Nelson-Denny Reading Test (NDRT) in the Virginia Community College System. Subjects were students at Blue Ridge Community College enrolled in English 101, 102, 111, 112, and Psychology 201, 202, or 203 during one academic year. The NDRT (Form A) was…

Medina-Spyropoulos, E. – 1975
Findings concerning the relationship of perceptual-motor and oral-language organization to later reading achievement are discussed in relation to a predictive battery of 15 tests. It was concluded that the predictive efficacy of the tests depends on the degree to which they measure integrative ability rather than on the specific skills measured.…

Lunneborg, Clifford E. – 1974
Available empirical data relating to the effects of changes in freshmen admissions at the university are summarized. Included are the data concerning the construction of an admissions index based on core high school GPA and verbal and quantitative test scores. Findings are that the arbitrary weighting of one-third test scores to two-thirds HS…

Nolan, Edwin J.
A correlational study was conducted using ACT (American College Test) sub-test scores and actual grades earned in corresponding subject areas in order to determine if the ACT was an effective predictor for student's grades at Southern West Virginia Community College (SWVCC). Study subjects were all students (n= 241) who had ACT test scores on file…

Aiken, James; And Others – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1976
This was an exploratory study of the descriptive and standardized test factors related to orientation advisor effectiveness as perceived by new students, supervisors, and the advisors themselves. Results indicated that effective advisors tended to be older, brighter, and seen as reserved, interpersonally cautious, and empathetic to new students'…

A study of 59 deaf children indicates that the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and the Hiskey-Nebraska Test of Learning Aptitude (HNTLA) have little or no value for predicting the achievement levels of either White or Black deaf children. (Author/EB)

Kolen, Michael J.; Whitney, Douglas R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
Nine methods of smoothing double-entry expectancy tables (tables that relate two predictor variables to probability of attaining success on a criterion) were compared using data for entering students at 85 colleges and universities. The smoothed tables were more accurate than those based on observed relative frequencies. (Author/CTM)

Hoffman, Roy A.; Ziegler, Edward W. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
The writing samples of high school and college students were scored using objective indices. The relationships between these indices and the scores earned on a standarized English test were determined. The results support the contention that a standarized test could identify college students who have difficulty writing. (Author)
