Peer reviewedYsseldyke, James; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1981
Compares the performance of learning disabled students on the WISC-R and the Tests of Cognitive Abilities from the Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery. This study finds that learning disabled subjects performed more poorly on the Tests of Cognitive Abilities than on the WISC-R. (Author)
Descriptors: Cognitive Measurement, Comparative Analysis, Correlation, Elementary Education
Peer reviewedPowell, Glen; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1981
Examines the relationship between the Woodcock Word Comprehension Test and several measures of reading achievement and verbal intelligence on 194 children. Pearson product-moment correlations (r) were used to test the relationships. It appeared that the Woodcock Word Comprehension Test assesses reading ability more than general verbal ability.…

Peer reviewedCarlson, Les; Reynolds, Cecil R. – Psychology in the Schools, 1981
The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) was factor analyzed at each of six age levels between four and six-plus years through the method of principal factors. Results substantially support Wechsler's division of the WPPSI subtests into a Verbal and a Performance scale at all age levels. (Author)
Descriptors: Age, Analysis of Variance, Children, Cognitive Measurement
Scheibner-Herzig, Gudrun; And Others – Rassegna Italiana di Linguistica Applicata, 1980
Reports on a study designed to measure the various learning abilities of nine-year-old German children as observed during one year of English instruction. Describes a battery of special tests administered to the students during the experimental year and discusses results obtained through correlation analyses. (MES)
Descriptors: Children, English, English (Second Language), Intelligence Tests
Peer reviewedBak, Joseph S.; Greene, Roger L. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1981
The literature reveals a marked decline in performance on the Visual Reproduction subtest with increasing age. Both level of education and intelligence seemed to exert a substantial influence on performance which may be significant in clinical evaluations. (Author)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Aging (Individuals), Clinical Diagnosis, Gerontology

Regression lines for the prediction of achievement were compared across race through the Potthoff analysis, which provides a simultaneous test of slope and intercept values. Results of these comparisons generally supported the predictive validity of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised across race with this referral sample of young…

Peer reviewedMorgan, Sam B. – Mental Retardation, 1979
Data on the systematic decline in IQs and Social Quotients in 217 Down's syndrome children (3 months to 15 years old) from infancy to adolescence are presented along with an analysis of the distribution of IQs within different age ranges. (Author/CL)

Peer reviewedLawson, Anton E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1979
The paper presents a discussion of a theory of intelligence which postulates that intelligence develops rather than that intelligence is an innate ability possessed in full measure at birth.
