Peer reviewedFlammer, August – Psychometrika, 1975
Model justified the expectation that the transfer from learning one task to another is linearly dependent on the coefficient of intercorrelation between the two studies when the coefficient was corrected for attenuation. Supportive studies are cited. Regression curves yielded negative intercepts. Testable explanations were offered. (Author/BJG)

Peer reviewedCrockett, Bruce K.; And Others – Psychology in the Schools, 1976
The Metropolitan Achievement Test (MAT) was administered to 35 original Head-Start children three to four years after initial WPPSI testing. WPPSI Verbal IQ did not correlate significantly with any of the subject areas of the MAT, while Performance IQ correlated only moderately with mathematical components of the MAT (r = .42 - .52). (Author)

Peer reviewedKorth, Bruce; Tucker, Ledyard R. – Psychometrika, 1975
Provides normative data about the distribution of one measure of similarity of factor loadings, the congruence coefficient, through a Monte Carlo Technique. Matching of "chance" factor patterns was done by the method of Tucker. Statistical tests of the results, based on similarities of the method to canonical and multiple correlation,…

Peer reviewedHedlund, James L.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1975
Two short forms of the MMPI and the full form were administered to a sample of psychiatric patients. Using multiple regression and correlation procedures, the results of the three forms were compared with one another. A number of similarities and differences among the scales of the three forms are discussed. (SE)

Peer reviewedLiben, Lynn S. – Developmental Psychology, 1975
To evaluate the hypothesis that memories are related to operative levels, children were shown pictures involving seriation, horizontality, and verticality and were asked to reproduce them 1 week and 5 months later. Although memories and operative levels did correlate, the relations were quantitatively weak and were undermined by serious…

Peer reviewedMoyer, Richard H. – School Science and Mathematics, 1975
The Syracuse Environmental Awareness Tests were administered to high school seniors. Scores were correlated with school data including grade point average and courses selected, as well as with socio-economic data. It was concluded that attitudes toward the environment were not greatly influenced by the classroom. (SD)

Peer reviewedDoyle, Kenneth, O., Jr.; Whitely, Susan E. – American Educational Research Journal, 1974
A rating instrument was administered to students in a multi-section beginning language course. "Across-" and "between-sections" data were studied. Results indicated that student ratings overlap with classroom achievement, yet possess a unique component. (Author/RC)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Correlation, Rating Scales, Student Characteristics
Peer reviewedGruneberg, Michael M.; And Others – British Journal of Psychology, 1974
This study examines the effect of instruction to generate memorable as opposed to grammatical sentences from letter strings of varying lengths. (Editor)

Peer reviewedO'Leary, Michael R.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1975
The present study investigated the relationship between locus of control and defensive style as assessed by the Defensive Mechanism Inventory (DMI). (Author)

Spearing, Debra; Woehlke, Paula – 1989
To assess the effect on discriminant analysis in terms of correct classification into two groups, the following parameters were systematically altered using Monte Carlo techniques: sample sizes; proportions of one group to the other; number of independent variables; and covariance matrices. The pairing of the off diagonals (or covariances) with…

Longo, Laura C.; Ashmore, Richard D. – 1990
Most researchers explain the attractiveness-personality link in terms of a simple self-fulfilling prophecy model: a person's good looks evoke a "Beauty is Good" stereotype that causes positive treatment by others, which, in turn, causes the target to develop a "good personality." An alternative conceptual framework expands on the current implicit…

Hussain, Noorul – 1990
This study examined two research questions: (1) Is there any significant relationship between general departmental support and adoption of instructional innovations by faculty innovators at a large university? and (2) Is there any significant relationship between specific departmental support and adoption of instructional innovations by faculty…

Anderson, Peter B.; Thompson, Bruce – 1990
The role of women as sexual victims has been recognized and documented in cultural and social history. However, men too can be the victims of unwanted and aggressive heterosexual behavior. This study explored the incidence of sexually aggressive behaviors performed by women (N=212) who were students in sexuality classes. Specifically, three…

Conceptions of Statistical Relations within the Context of Thinking about Causal Relations. 1984:03.
Svensson, Lennart – 1984
The results concerning conceptions of statistical relations, presented in this report are based on interviews with fourteen nurses and fourteen technicians. The interviews were about a medical and a technical case of a causal relation. The starting point was a statement about the existence of the relation and the subjects were asked what evidence…

Athanasou, James A. – 1981
This study tested the hypothesis that measured aptitudes and self-ratings of these same aptitudes reflect a common domain of psychometric behavior. Male and female applicants for vocational guidance completed a self-rating scale and then the General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB). The self-rating scale contained six vocational/educational aptitudes.…
