Cudeck, Robert – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1982
Many models have been proposed for examining factors from several batteries of tests. A model for such an analysis is presented which allows for maintaining the distinction among batteries. A discussion of the computational procedures is given, and examples are provided. (Author/JKS)

Good, Ron – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1983
Focuses on Binomial Effect Size Display (a concept helpful in interpreting size of an experimental effect). Suggests that both statistical significance and explained variance be reported in experimental research and that values for the latter concepts can be viewed with a more accurate perspective by using BESD. (Author/JN)

Rock, Daniel L. Fordyce, Wilbert E. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1982
A methodology of computing prescribed point biserial correlation coefficients and then evaluating the coefficients with respect to three criteria was developed. It can be used to assess the item convergent validity of nonobjectively scored test items. (Author/PN)

Zimmerman, Donald W.; Williams, Richard H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
Changes, like single scores, are demonstrated to be valid and reliable and potentially predictable by independent variables. Change and growth measures determined from individual examinees' test scores indicated excellent predictive value. (Author/PN)

Iso-Ahola, Seppo E.; Buttimer, Kevin J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
While the work ethic and leisure ethic were moderately negatively correlated in a study of two scales of each ethic and a leisure satisfaction index, the correlations between the ethics were influenced by gender differences and the types of items included in the instruments. Several correlation interactions are discussed. (Author/CM)

Williams, Richard H.; Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1982
A mathematical link between test reliability and test validity is derived, taking into account the correlation between error scores on a test and error scores on a criterion measure. When this correlation is positive, the "paradoxical" nonmonotonic relation between test reliability and test validity occurs universally. (Author/BW)

Stock, William A.; And Others – Educational Researcher, 1982
Describes a study of reliability among coders of information for meta-analysis (a quantitative procedure for synthesizing data in primary research reports) of research on life satisfaction in American adults. Identifies sources and areas of disagreement among coders and discusses measures that can be used to enhance intercoder consistency.…

Martin, John D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The California Psychological Inventory (CPI), the Slosson Intelligence Test (SIT), and the Shipley-Institute of Living Scale (SILS) were administered to undergraduates. The Intellectual Efficiency scale scores were correlated .52 with the SIT scores and .39 with the SILS scores. The SIT and SILS were correlated .49. (Author/GK)

Graf, Mercedes Herrera; Hamersma, Richard J. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Beery contends that the Visual-motor Integration Test can be used to identify learning disability as a result of a deficit in visual-motor integration. The results of this study show that no or low correlation exists when the test is administered to three-year-old children. (Author/AL)
Descriptors: Correlation, Disability Identification, Learning Disabilities, Preschool Education
Linn, Robert L. – New Directions for Testing and Measurement, 1980
If the correlation between selection test and pretest is greater than the correlation between selection test and posttest, a selected group will continue to regress to the mean in the norm-referenced model of the Title I Evaluation and Reporting System and, therefore, yield a biased estimate. (Author/RL)

Freeman, David M.; And Others – Rural Sociology, 1982
Data collected from a sample of farmers representing 15 Pakistani villages show that greater equality in village power distribution is positively related to greater adoption of agricultural technology as analyzed at the village level. When effects of water control are parceled out, the power-adoption relationship is strengthened. (LC)

Shayer, M. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1979
The relation between Piaget's logical theory of formal operational thinking and his account of cognitive development is discussed. Formal operational thinking was found to be a unitary construct, and both heterogeneity of performance and decalage were found to be smaller than a recent review had suggested. (Author/KC)

Lachar, David; Gdowski, Charles L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1979
Investigated relationships between empirically determined dimensions of problem behaviors and profile scales of the Personality Inventory for Children. Correlation matrices allowed identification of scale to correlates and their variation by age or sex and facilitated estimates of generalizability of the data. Results provided evidence of scale…

Stiles, William B.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1979
Compared specific verbal response mode (VRM) indices with the more global Experiencing (EXP) Scale. Stile's VRM taxonomy was used to code transcribed interviews published in the EXP manual. The strongest VRM correlate of EXP level was the percentage of utterances that were disclosure in form and intent. (Author)

Schriesheim, Chester A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This study provides support for the hypothesized effect of leniency on the discriminant validity of grouped questionnaire items. It was found that controlling for leniency resulted in a slight decrement in convergent validity but that discriminant validity was substantially improved. Implications for questionnaire validity and further research are…
