Wallbrown, Fred H.; Jones, James A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
A hierarchical factor analysis of the intercorrelations among the Revised California Psychological Inventory (CPI-R) folk scales shows a strong general profile elevation factor for both men and women, which is noteworthy because it provides an empirical basis for interpreting the CPI-R as a measure of personal adjustment. (SLD)

Zbornik, John J.; Wallbrown, Fred H. – Reading Improvement, 1991
Investigates the validity of the Reading Anxiety Scale. Finds that (1) reading anxiety shows a stronger negative correlation with reading achievement than does general anxiety; and (2) although general anxiety and reading anxiety correlate substantially, reading anxiety measures something beyond general anxiety. (RS)

Greenan, James P.; McCabe, Connie – Journal of Epsilon Pi Tau, 1991
A sample of 100 vocational students from 5 program areas completed a Student Self-Rating and 10 teachers completed a Teacher Rating, forms of the Generalizable Reasoning Skills instrument. Responses showed that students and teachers do not agree on students' level of reasoning skills. (SK)

Kamphaus, Randy W.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test 3 models of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-III (2-, 3-, and 4-factor conceptualizations) for 11 age groups with 200 subjects per age group. The four-factor model is somewhat supported, but its theoretical or clinical importance is unclear. (SLD)

Van Joolingen, Wouter – Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education, 1994
Describes QMaPS (Qualitative Matching and Prediction system for Simulations), a qualitative reasoning system designed to function as a module in exploratory simulation learning environments. Highlights include a hierarchical organization of variables; multilevel relation typology; modeling of physical and conceptual domain structures; an…

Smith-Sebasto, N. J.; Fortner, Rosanne W. – Journal of Environmental Education, 1994
Reports research designed to develop a reliable and valid instrument to assess the relationship between locus of control of reinforcement and environmentally responsible behavior in (n=853) undergraduate students. Results suggest that the Environmental Action Internal Control Index can accurately predict environmentally responsible behavior.…

Fleenor, John W.; Taylor, Sylvester – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Relations were examined among the CPI Creativity Scale (CPI-CT), the MBTI Creativity Index (MBTI-CI), and the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory (KAI; a style measure of behavioral preference) for samples of 431 to 12,115 managers. KAI scores were related to CPI-CT and MBTI-CI creativity levels. (SLD)

Ten Berge, Jos M. F.; And Others – Psychometrika, 1994
The suggestion that the IDIOSCAL model be fitted by the TUCKALS2 algorithm for three-way components analysis is examined. The claim that resulting coordinate matrices will be identical is supported when the data matrices are semidefinite. Counterexamples for indefinite matrices are also constructed. (SLD)

DeMarie-Dreblow, Darlene – Child Development, 1991
Reported two studies of the possible relation of knowledge to improvements in recall. Tested 8- to 11-year-old children and college students for knowledge recall before and after they saw videotapes about birds. Although knowledge and memory measures correlated, and most knowledge measures improved after children viewed the videotapes, recall and…

Vooijs, Marcel W.; Van der Kamp, Leo J. T. – Evaluation Review, 1991
A two-step procedure is developed for the analysis of pretest-posttest data. Nonlinear canonical correlation analysis is followed by covariance analysis of optimally scaled pretest and posttest measures. The procedure is available in the computer program CANALS. Advantages of the two-step procedure are discussed. (SLD)

Holland, John L. – Journal of Career Development, 1991
Holland gives a personal account of how the preceding article was initiated and executed. Origins of the research project, the process of statistical analysis, preparation of the final article, and advice for beginning researchers are included. (SK)

Thompson, Bruce – Journal of Experimental Education, 1991
Monte Carlo methods were used to evaluate the degree to which canonical function and structure coefficients may be differentially sensitive to sampling error. For each of 64 research situations, 1,000 random samples were drawn. Both sets of coefficients were roughly equally influenced; some exceptions are noted. (SLD)

Vernon, Philip A.; Mori, Monica – Intelligence, 1992
In 2 studies with 85 and 88 undergraduates, respectively, peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) was significantly correlated with IQ score and reaction times, and NCV and reaction time contributed significantly, in combination, to prediction of IQ. Results are interpreted in terms of a neural efficiency model of intelligence. (Author/SLD)

Gilpin, Andrew R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
Kendall's Tau is often considered equivalent to Spearman's Rho as an ordinal measure of correlation in spite of its different metric. Formulas for converting Tau to Rho are reviewed; and a table of corresponding values is presented for Tau, Rho, and several related indices. (SLD)

Kim, Min-Sun; Hunter, John E. – Communication Research, 1993
Examines whether behavioral intentions (BI) mediate between attitudes (A) and behaviors (B). Finds A-BI correlation higher than A-B correlation, BI-B correlation higher than A-B correlation, A-BI correlation higher than BI-B correlation, variation in BI-B correlations greater than A-BI, and attitudinal relevance affected the magnitude of A-BI…
