Raters' agreement and the relative consistency of diving judges at a boy's competition were analyzed using intraclass correlations within 16 position x type combinations. Ninety-eight children identified as shy, based on their self-perceptions and specific criteria related to shyness, were administered a self-esteem inventory and self-report measures of shyness. The scores of a sample of 116 first-grade rural Georgia pupils from a reading attitude inventory were correlated .18 with the reading composite scores on the Metropolitan Achievement Test. To appropriately evaluate the effects of the national policy of desegregation on racial attitudes, data from a national probability sample of 9-, 13-, and 17-year-olds were analyzed.
