Results from this study of 110 low-risk, middle-class infants showed that a significantly greater proportion of infants whose mothers worked full-time outside the home were assigned to the category "insecure-avoidant" than infants whose mothers remained in the home throughout their children's first year of life. Replicates and corroborates a study by L. L. LeShan which reported that middle class (MC) children's stories cover a longer time span than those of lower class (LC) children. MC children's stories, however, were also longer in length and contained more past tense verbs. Time span may be an artifact of story length. (DB)
