Locke, John L. – IRAL, 1970
Exact analysis of an experiment involving children from the ages of 4 to 12 learning three new articulations revealed that most of the articulation learning took place on the second attempt with relatively moderate improvement in subsequent trials, thus placing the value of repetition in articulation learning in question. (FB)
Descriptors: Auditory Stimuli, Imitation, Learning Theories, Memory
Bobrow, Samuel – J Verb Learning Verb Behav, 1970
The experimental results reported here indicate that sentences are remembered and recalled in terms of semantic representations of the indicated words or concepts rather than in terms of phonological representations. (FB)
Descriptors: Comprehension, Memory, Nouns, Paired Associate Learning
Kintsch, Walter – J Verb Learning Verb Behav, 1970
Evidence from recognition memory tests using German-English bilinguals indicates that bilinguals can code words either in terms of language-specific cues or in terms of general semantic cues, as the task requires, but that the two sets of cues are not independent. (FB)

Peer reviewedHall, James W.; Halperin, Marcia S. – Developmental Psychology, 1972
The present study tested the feasibility of using a purely verbal recognition-memory procedure with young children and examined the role of verbal associations in the memory encoding of such children. (Author)

Bartz, Wayne – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Dichotic presentation involves the auditory presentation of different verbal messages simultaneously. Investigations involving repetition effects on this process are discussed. (Author/RY)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Ears, Hearing (Physiology), Memory
Puff, C, Richard – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Major implications of the results of this study are (a) their support for the reality or validity" of measured units of subjective organization, and (b) the effects on practice. (Author/RY)

Clarifies some of the conditions under which verbal processes facilitate or inhibit learning of visual stimuli. (Author/AJ)

Peer reviewedBauman, Edward – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
This study investigates schizophrenics' ability to utilize input organization and auditory cues for recall. The findings suggest that schizophrenics do utilize the cues of input organization and vocalization for recall, but the process of responding seems to engender excessive output interference which makes retrieval of late input items…
