Overall, John E.; Pfefferbaum, Betty – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1982
Five experienced child and adolescent psychiatrists provided ratings of symptoms and behaviors of typical patients belonging to 18 different diagnostic groups. Ratings were then factor analyzed and revealed consistency of description in 14 of the 18 groups. (Author/JKS)

Thauberger, Patrick C.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1982
Research in existentialism and ontology has given rise to several psychometric instruments. Used both exploratory and confirmatory principal-factor analyses to study relationships among 16 existential scales. Exploratory factor analysis provided some support of the theory that the avoidance of existential confrontation is a central function of…

Bakalars, Rita; Petrich, Beatrice – Home Economics Research Journal, 1983
Discusses a study to determine to what extent family life education concepts were included in elementary school curricula and to determine the factorial structure of the concepts based on teachers' responses. Found that elementary teachers conceptualize family life and child development concepts differently than do many home economics…

Smith, Jarrell; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Obtained a factor analysis of demographic and behavioral variables from self-ratings and observations of trained raters on a sample of 200 incarcerated delinquents, which resulted in eight identifiable factors. Results provide understanding of the relationships and disparities between self-ratings, the ratings of others, and demographic variables.…

Eaker, H. A.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Presents a factor analysis of personality, intellectual, demographic and behavioral variables obtained from 200 incarcerated delinquents. Results described five personality groupings: White and older adolescent offenders with good verbal skills, the older adolescent offender, the institutional disrupter, and the anxious, verbal offender rated as…

Russell, Stephen F.; Ludenia, Krista – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examined the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) Scales with alcoholic patients (N=100). The three MHLC Scales appear to measure largely independent dimensions of locus of control beliefs specifically related to health. Factor analyses suggest that the instrument is factorily valid. Linehan, Marsha M.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Describes the development of the Reasons for Living Inventory (RFL), an instrument to measure beliefs potentially important as reasons for not committing suicide. Factor analyses indicated six primary reasons for living. The RFL was given to Seattle shoppers (N=197) and psychiatric inpatients (N=195) and differentiated suicidal from nonsuicidal…

Hafer, Marilyn; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
Data from the responses of 104 medical and rehabilitation students to the Attitudes toward Disabled Persons Scale-Form B (ATDP-B) were factor analyzed using a principal components solution, with particular attention to the problem of the number of factors to retain. Research supports ATDP-B use as a unidimensional measure. (Author/PN)

Barling, J. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1982
Presents the results of a study of the role of self-determined performance standards (stringent versus lenient) and locus of control beliefs (self versus external) on children's self-regulation of academic behavior. The experimental method of the study is described and a 16-item reference list is included. (Author/JL)

Marsh, Herbert W.; Smith, Ian D. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1982
The multidimensionality of self-concept and the use of factor analysis in the development of self-concept instruments are supported in multitrait-multimethod analyses of the Sears and Coopersmith instruments. Convergent validity and discriminate validity of subscales in factor analysis and multitrait-multimethod analysis of longitudinal data are…

Mount, Michael K. – Personnel Psychology, 1983
Surveyed managers and employees to assess satisfaction with a performance appraisal system. Factor analyses indicated that employees perceive certain aspects of the appraisal system in a global way, whereas managers differentiate among various components and see them as distinct entities. The relative importance of the factors differs. (Author/JAC)

Corrigan, John D.; Schmidt, Lyle D. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1983
Revised the Counselor Rating Form (CRF) creating the Counselor Rating Form-Short version (CRF-S). Tested reliability and validity of the CRF-S. Results indicated reliabilities of CRF-S scales were comparable to those for the CRF. Factor analytic comparison showed three correlated factors corresponding to the attractiveness, expertness, and…

Khattab, Ali-Maher; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
A causal modeling system, using confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analysis with the LISREL IV computer program, evaluated the construct validity underlying the higher order factor structure of a given correlation matrix of 46 structure-of-intellect tests emphasizing the product of transformations. (Author/PN)

Huba, George J.; Bentler, Peter M. – Journal of Drug Education, 1983
Reexamined previous statistical comparisons of two models for adolescent drug abuse using new statistical estimation methods in causal modeling not requiring assumptions about normally distributed variables. An asymptotically distribution free method shows that the models fit even better than assumed in the initial work. (Author/JAC)

Naglieri, Jack A.; And Others – Journal of School Psychology, 1981
Cross-validated the factor analysis of the McCarthy Scales and determined construct validity for children who score one standard deviation below the normative mean on general cognitive ability. Findings discourage interpretation of the Quantitative Scale for school-age children with General Cognitive Indexes below 84. (Author)
