Fives, Helenrose; Buehl, Michelle M. – Journal of Experimental Education, 2009
The authors examined the factor structure of the long and short forms of the Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES; M. Tschannen-Moran & A. Woolfolk-Hoy, 2001) for practicing (n = 102) and preservice teachers (n = 270), comparing the responses to both forms of the TSES, and looked for differences in teachers' efficacy with respect to…

Meunier, Jean-Christophe; Roskam, Isabelle – Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, 2009
This study presents a validation of a scale that assesses parents' childrearing behavior toward young children. The scale was validated on 565 parents of 2- to 7-year-old children. The current results replicated the factor solution of the original scale designed for parents of school-aged children. The scale demonstrated good psychometric…

Kingery, Julie Newman; Ginsburg, Golda S.; Burstein, Marcy – Child Psychiatry and Human Development, 2009
The current study examined the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC) among a community sample of 118 African American students (58 females; ages 14-19 years; mean age = 15.79) in an urban, parochial high school. Adolescents completed the MASC and several other self-report measures of…

Stapleton, Connie D. – 1997
This paper reviews the basic processes of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with regard to evaluating test score validity. Construct validity is the focus of the paper. The similarity between the processes of construct validation and EFA is described and the use of EFA as a tool to explore score validity is explored. Factor analysis is a method…

Khattab, Ali-Maher; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Confirmatory factor analysis was used to reanalyze correlational data from selected variables in Guilford's Aptitudes Research Project. Results indicated Guilford's model reproduced the original correlation matrix more closely than other models. Most of Guilford's tests indicated high loadings on their hypothesized factors. (GDC)

Prediger, Dale J. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1984
Focuses on anomalies in the O'Neil (1980) data on the factor structure of the Career Factor Checklist. Charges that critical errors compromise the conclusions regarding CFC valididty, and notes errors in analyses based on CFC scores. (JAC)

Bell, Morris D.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1985
Factor analysis of the Bell Reality Testing Inventory items produced three subscales interpreted as dimensions of the reality testing ego function: Reality Distortion, Uncertainty of Perception, Hallucinations and Delusions. Replication factor analysis confirmed the factor structure. Subscales appear sensitive to variations in psychopathology and…

Thompson, Bruce; Borrello, Gloria M. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1986
Factor adequacy and other results based on data from college students (N=359) provided positive evidence regarding the construct validity of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Second order factor analysis supported the appropriateness of the MBTI item weighting procedures. (Author/ABB)

Norcross, John C.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Investigated the factor structure of the Levels of Attribution and Change (LAC) Scale on two samples: adult smokers (N=194) and professional psycho-therapists (N=140). Analysis of data substantiated the utility and internal validity of the LAC theoretical scales and supported the present scoring system. (LLL)

Mumford, Karen R.; Ferron, John M.; Hines, Constance V.; Hogarty, Kristine Y.; Kromrey, Jeffery D. – 2003
This study compared the effectiveness of 10 methods of determining the number of factors to retain in exploratory common factor analysis. The 10 methods included the Kaiser rule and a modified Kaiser criterion, 3 variations of parallel analysis, 4 regression-based variations of the scree procedure, and the minimum average partial procedure. The…

ten Berge, Jos M. F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
A shortcut formula for the computation of "coefficients of invariance" in the comparison of factor structures is presented. A limitation of the coefficient of invariance is pointed out in the case of comparing two first principal components. (NE)

Miller, Lovick; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1972
Ratings on a fear inventory for children revealed three dimensions: fear of physical injury, natural events, and psychic stress. A comparison with studies of adult fears suggested that fear of physical injury and psychic stress carry through much of the life span, while fear of natural events mitigates with maturation. Dunn, James E. – Psychometrika, 1973
A counterexample is produced to a conjecture by K. G. Joreskog concerning sufficiency conditions for uniqueness of a restricted factor matrix. A substitute condition is stated and proved for the most common situation where the restricted elements are specified to be zero. (Author)
