Peer reviewedBroadbent, Donald E.; Broadbent, Margaret H. P. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, 1975
The entire paper can be summarized by considering the presentation of a stimulus which acts by restricting the set of possible words to a defined short list and the resulting human choice that makes use of information from the stimulus to favor one of the words in the list rather than others. (Author/RK)

Peer reviewedTussing, Marjorie; Zimmermann, Jon – Unterrichtspraxis, 1977
Vocabulary in first-year high school and college level German texts was studied. It was suggested that textbook authors use published word frequency lists to develop teaching materials that are practical, useful, and relevant to the process of communication. A word list occurring in 12 textbooks is presented in descending frequency. (SW)

Peer reviewedHarris, Zellig – Journal of Linguistics, 1978
A system of grammatical analysis is presented which has certain mathematical properties and which produces the sentences of a language by means of two simple processes: word-entry and entry-reduction. This system is not an alternative to descriptions of grammatical patterns, but rather a complement to them. (DS)

Postman, Leo; Kruesi, Elizabeth – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1977
Experiment I studied type of processing (semantic or nonsemantic) and dimension of rating (pleasantness or frequency of occurrence). Recall was higher under semantic conditions and after ratings of pleasantness. Experiment 2 showed that the difference between incidental and intentional learners increases as more stress is placed on the learning…

Saba, Anton K.; Turnage, Thomas W. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1973
The unit-sequence interference hypothesis predicts that sequences of high-frequency words should be forgotten faster than equivalent sequences of low-frequency words, because of opportunities for response competition that increase with word frequency. (Authors)
