This article examines evidence that shows that the quality of education in many fields of engineering, including chemical engineering, is being endangered by severe and growing shortages of competent faculty. Shrinking graduate enrollment, budget cuts, and high industrial salaries are discussed as main causes. (ECO)

Graduate students were exposed to a training procedure that enabled them to verbally practice responding to client negative affect and then observe a model counselor's response. When these subjects counseled angry or depressed role-playing clients, they responded more consistently than subjects exposed to other training procedures. (Author)
