Davignon, Donald D.; Leshowitz, Barry H. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1986
Measured how well elderly persons hear in everyday auditory communication situations. Results of the new Speech-In Noise (SIN) test were better predictors of hearing communication performance than any of the traditional audiometric measures. Because the SIN test is so brief, it is ideal for mass screening of hearing among the elderly. (Author/ABB)

Young, Maxine L. – Journal of Childhood Communication Disorders, 1985
The article examines the contributions of both audiologists and speech-language pathologists to the diagnosis and management of students with central auditory processing disorders and language impairments. (CL)

Hawkins, David B. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1984
The average FM advantage over a personal hearing aid was equivalent to a 15dB improvement signal-to-noise-ratio (S/N). The benefit offered by the FM system decreased as the environmental signal-to-noise-ratio increased but remained significant even at +15dB. Significant improvement was also found with directional as compared to omnidirectional…

Turner, Christopher W.; Henn, Carol C. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1989
The study employed measures of frequency resolution obtained from individual subjects (two normal and three with sensorineural hearing loss) to predict each subject's vowel recognition performance. A relation between impairments of frequency resolution and vowel recognition was found. The described model may be useful in predicting vowel…

McFarland, Dennis J.; Cacace, Anthony T. – American Journal of Audiology, 1995
This paper examines the case for modality specificity as a criterion for improving the specificity of diagnosing central auditory processing disorders. Demonstrating the modality-specific nature of sensory processing deficits is seen as one way to rule out nonperceptual factors as explanations for observed dysfunction. (Author)

McLennan, Roderick O., Jr.; Knox, Albert W. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1975
In a test of auditory discrimination, 15 normal adults and 15 subjects with sensorineural hearing loss repeated monosyllabic words under conventional and subject-controlled methods of presentation. (Author/LS)

Watrous, Betty Springer; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1975
Forty infants, 3- to 12-months-old, participated in a study designed to differentiate the auditory response characteristics of normally developing infants in the age ranges 3 - 5 months, 6 - 8 months, and 9 - 12 months. (Author)

Rose, Darrell E., Ed. – 1971
The text, designed for students and others interested in clinical audiology, is intended to provide comprehensive coverage of not only important concepts in audiology but particularly of the methods and procedures used in audiological assessment. The functions of tests, the administration of specific tests, and the analysis of test results are…
